Re: Mushroom season is on!!

this year I'm not jealous. I have collected 40 lbs of Porcini's and probably 5 lbs of lobster mushrooms. I've gotten a few lbs of oysters as well. I'm still hunting but the rains have stopped and the mushrooms have stopped for the moment.

Re: How to sharpen a single bevel knife.

I'm curious about the microbevel. He does seem to put one on. I'm struggling with whether to do this myself. In principle I like the idea of a zero grind, but I recently sharpened my Young Samarai yanagiba to a zero grind. It took a few hours to get it flat. (I didn't want to go as course as an atom...

Re: Any coffee fans?

I would be interested but shipping is seemingly a killer. Your base price is great. I'm in NM and got $10 for estimated shipping which nearly doubles the cost. Can you check flat rate or other alternatives?

thanks,

Re: Show Your Home Kitchen!

we are also remodeling our kitchen now. We are going with a minimal cabinet design. Lowers only to the extent possible. Could you post some links for hanging space ideas. Shelving is pretty straightforward :-). I only heard about this a couple days ago but don't really know what's out there.

way cool. Looks like some kind of mudstone or shale, like I used to see lying around the cliffs of Santa Barbara, but it's probably much harder.

Do post photos when you are done.

Re: WTS Ozuku Asagi (Koppa)

PHUG's are pretty cheap, way less than Jnat's. The largest 8"x3"x1.25" is about $50. It is super hard (it rings) and fine and slow, *unless* it follow an ozuku. Then it works like magic.

Re: WTS Ozuku Asagi (Koppa)

Mine is a little bigger and a little thinner but you should have plenty of working area for a straight. You could finish with the ozuku, or I find that the chinese 12K follows this perfectly. The chinese 12 or PHUG, is supposed to be a slow stone, but the ozuku leaves the perfect edge to start on th...

Re: WTS Ozuku Asagi (Koppa)

I bought the last one available on CKTG and can vouch that these are awesome! It is very hard and fine. I only use it for straight razors, but for that purpose it can't be beat. GLWS.

WTB Aoto

Just throwing this out there... I anyone has an aoto they want to get rid of, contact me and let's see if we can work something out. Of particular interest are the special purchase aotos that Mark got. I missed that and would have been all over it but was out of contact. Not your cup of tea, I'd lov...

Re: How do you store your stones?

If your garage isn't climate controlled it may very well be the reason your stones crack. If there is a big temperature difference in your garage and where you sharpen that can be a contributing factor too. Possibly. My garage is unheated, but it doesn't freeze. I assumed that would be good enough....

Re: Mushroom season is on!!

I still hate all of you ;) . I got absolutely no mushrooms this year. It was miserably dry through mid July and then still not much. I also lost my beater car so I couldn't go to the remote sites looking... Congrats, they look great. Hen of Woods or maitake is one of my favorites. It doesn't grow ar...

Re: Opps Chosera 800 !

most of my hairlines are cracked from about 1/2" in to the edge. This stone is the only one that is cracked all the way to the center of the stone, and again it is displaced enough that it feels uneven with my fingers even after flattening.

Re: Opps Chosera 800 !

Finally got a (lousy) photo of the stone in question. This is the older chosera 2K. These are not spider cracks. The cracks are displaced and go most of the way through the stone. The worst spot is the 3 way crack near the middle of the stone farthest to the right in the photo. You can feel them whe...

Re: How do you store your stones?

On their edges on a nonslip mat on a wire shelf in the garage to make sure they get plenty of air circulation to promote even drying and not mold. Maybe they dry too fast and that's why my stones crack... I really don't know

Re: Opps Chosera 800 !

I have 400, 1K,2K,3K. All have cracks. The 400, 1K and 3K are of no consequence. The 2K is a different story. At this point I don't want to use the stone. the cracks feel displaced. I can feel them as I run my finger over the stone. I don't want to run an edge over them. The other stones are fine. I...

I bought one of these from round 2 and like it quite a lot. FF was fine on mine, but I'm curious if there is any difference in F&F between the last round and this one.
