You really can’t go wrong with the 5k Rika.

Re: EDC suggestions
This steel is actually pretty impressive.
I am happy to use aus-8 or vg10 normally but this sharpens easily and it holds up very well too.

Re: Master List of Perma Soaking Stones
I have been perma soaking the King 300 on and off for about 2 years now with great results. Just recently I got a Naniwa Traditional 6000 from CKTG and that has been soaking for 2 weeks now. It is pretty hard and dense so I probably could keep out and just do a quick soak but so far it works great b...

Re: Nubatama Green Ume 220 brick
My 220 Black stone from Ken is one of my best course stones.
It cuts fast and the finish it leaves is much better than some other 220 stones I have tried.
In the future I would like to try some of his even lower grit stones.

Re: Shapton full thickness glass stones
I think doing a line of thicker SG stones without the glass backing is a great idea.
Especially on the lower grit stones, the SG formula works well for me on the sub 1K stones.

Re: How Did you get into sharpening ??
My Dad had oilstones in the garage and showed me the fundamentals when I was young but I really got into it when I started working in a cabinet shop in the early 90’s. I needed to keep my chisels and plane blades sharp so I discovered water stones. A King 1000 was my first and from there I was hooke...

Re: Cancel my order fee
A five dollar cancellation fee is extremely fair.
I usually order maybe 4 or 5 times a year from CKTG and would have no problem with the fee if the circumstance should occur.

Re: Your favorite stone combo
Right now my most used combo would be my Ume speckled 1K ex hard and my 5k Rika. Both have most excellent feel and feedback. The 1K just eats away most steels with ease and the 5k Rika is no slouch in that department either. I do have to watch and keep both of these flattened because they will start...

Re: Silicone carbide for lapping?
I mostly use diamond plates for lapping but I will use silicon carbide grit on some harder stones like translucent Arkansas and certain ceramics. This is done on glass or my steel lapping plates. I'm sure a cheap silicon carbide stone could lap a water stone but I doubt how true it would be. I think...

Re: CKTG 400/1000 plate
I love my 400/1000 plate and it is reasonably priced.
I've had it almost a year and it has flattened a whole lot of stones plus a bit of reprofiling.
It has held up better than my DMT so far.
Using light pressure is important.

Re: Welcome To Chefknivestogo Forums!
I'm new to the forum and have been doing a lot of reading on it and it is a great wealth of information here. I've been into knives and sharpening for about 40 years now but just in the past couple years have discovered the more high end water stones both synthetic and natural. As funds allow I plan...
