Pass Around

So, let me start off by saying, I royally F'ed up a pass around or 2 in my day. Won't get into the why's and when's, it was never malicious, never intended, etc. That said, I owe it to the forum to present one. I honestly had/still wanted to anyway, past be damned, and I participated in a few with n...

Re: WTS/T Ikeda AS sumanigishi “KS” 250mm

Man, I have this same knife without the custom handle(mine with the bubinga and wenge), I believe mine is also a hair shorter at the heel and have been thinking about selling it because I have realized I just don't love long blades, 220ish is my limit and my preferred is 200 to 210, but every time o...

Re: Looking for a 210 gyuto for the line

I’m really curious what “broken” means. There’s a chance there is a serviceable knife still inside the broken remains. What sort of damage happened? Fwiw, I’m a big fan of cheap/replaceable for line knives. Kohetsu blue 2 is a star on the line. I bought one of those Kohetsu's for a present for some...

Damn, don't Kanehiro 210's usually go in the low to mid $200's? How exactly did he break it if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Konosuke Updates

Hey Kosuke, any chance any 210 HD2's are on the way? Also, any chance you'll make a 180 HD2 Gyuto at any point in the future? Iirc there were 180 petty's in the past, but any chance on a 180mm Gyuto? Thanks Hello Dave Kinogie Thank you for your request. I'm afraid we don't have any plan to make 180...

Re: Konosuke Updates

2 questions:

1. Do you think you'll ever make 180mm HD2 Gyuto's?

2. What happened to the most recent Ginsan series? Was it removed from the site only because they sold out?

Re: WTB: Masamoto KS White 240mm Gyuto

I agree with those who say the KS was/is a fantastic knife. It just is, as an overall, cost aside. But... when they were in production they went for the low to mid 200's in outstanding shape, sometimes brand new in the box, maybe $300 at worst with a saya. And they also had a run of poor grinds and...

Re: WTB: Masamoto KS White 240mm Gyuto

I have seen a couple sell on another board in the last year. Iirc one was new in the box and wound up going for $370 and the other was lightly used in excellent shape with the saya and went for $340. I can see them going for higher, but I saw one listed for $450 recently, brand new in box, but looks...

Re: WTB: Masamoto KS White 240mm Gyuto

Thanks for clarifying that guys. I’ve always liked the look of it, and I wish that I would have jumped on the one that was on BST here a few months ago. I love my Doi and would be cool to compare them side-by-side. Dave, PM me if you ever want to sell yours, and no need to send it out for a clean-u...

Re: WTB: Masamoto KS White 240mm Gyuto

It is indeed Takumi Ikeda . It is actually a suminagashi cladding . Mine does not seem super reactive . The heat treat is top notch , it holds an edge FOREVER, and is not fragile in the least despite its thin grind. It outperforms knives at much higher price points . I highly doubt it will be produ...

Re: WTB: Masamoto KS White 240mm Gyuto

Was the Ikeda KS clone smithed by Yoshikazu? I always assumed that it was done by Takumi Ikeda, but I could be wrong because I wasn’t around when this knife was offered. Can one of the vets enlighten me? You could be correct, now that you mention it, I'm honestly not sure. There must have been a 2n...

Re: WTB: Masamoto KS White 240mm Gyuto

Have to find one used, they don't make them anymore. I have an Ikeda AS Damascus KS clone I'd be willing to trade or sell though. It's going out to a knife shop for some cleanup and a sharpening though, it has a touch of rust here and there that needs to be removed. I've found over the years that th...

Re: What did you order with the Black Friday sale?

I'm super tempted to pickup a Moritaka Nakiri but I'm nervous about the past overgrind issues. Anyone want to talk me off the ledge haha? It is my experience that Mark will stand behind any knife he sells. Teryasu Fujiwara knives are no longer offered due to an excess of customer complaints. I'm su...

No, just get one and enjoy it! :)
Most likely haha. I need a fire extinguisher for my debit card.
