Re: Looking for Sujihiki

I own a kohetsu AS 270 and its the greatest suji known to man lol But if your looking for something cheaper... The fugiwara carbon suji... Had one in a 240.... It gets just stupid sharp and holds it pretty well. how is the grind? is symmetrical right, is thin behind the edge or fairly thick like ot...

Re: Looking for Sujihiki

yes, I live in Vancouver BC, and Knifewear and Ai&Om is the most famous knife shop here. Ok, seems like Monosteel is way to go then, I'm going to Washington, DC and NY in a couple week. I might see another choice while I'm in there. Maybe if I can get a good deal on Masamoto VG I'll consider it. I ...

Re: Blade Steel

....... I hate vg10 lol Or rather i hate the way vg10 is handled. From my understanding vg10 is a little tricky to HT. Because of that, ALL(lol) production knife companies screw it up! Lol But seriously vg10-like all steels....are completely dependent on the smith heat treating it and unfortunately ...

Re: Strop without any Compound?

I use unloaded leather to strop fairly regularly and it works well. You can use an old belt if you have something you want to sacrifice. Use the smooth side. I don't think nano cloth works unloaded. At least not for me. I also haven't had much success with balsa unloaded. My go to strop to finish a...

Re: Strop without any Compound?

Is it okay to use strop without the compound? I am merely using it as a burr removal with a bit of an additional sharpness. That way I can keep the toothyness without it being too refined. :?: If any suggestion, give me one. I am looking at Nano, leather and Kangaroo, which gives a better results? ...

Re: Strop without any Compound?

compound stroping; bare leather stroping; newspaper stropping: which one is better? It depends! Example: Like many who read this forum, I follow the Burfection channel on youtube. This guy really loves green compound on hard leather. He obviously has access to many knives and many stones, but the p...

I’m viewing from the lens of I’m spending money on a proper sharpening medium to keep my knives sharp. The material lost is simply collateral damage ensuring my knives are in working order. I don’t worry about wasting tire tread by driving my car, the car moving is more important. Over time, I don’...

Re: Best bang for the buck knife brand?

Im going Kohetsu blue 2 all the way baby! I picked up a 210 for a "line knife" but found myself grabbing it all the time. I thinned mine a tiny bit and jesus christ it drops through product! And it will hold an edge all day... Like all day.... Like 14 hours with my 200 lb frame slamming it into poly...

Re: Strop without any Compound?

I use the same method a lot, felt between stones to keep the edge cleaned up and then just bare leather to finish. Has always worked well for me. So why the compound in the first place? does it really aid the sharpness ? A highly debated unresolved question. As someone who is just looking to keep h...
