Re: Handle Install Advice
I have used beeswax before hot glue. It's far more tricky to get a good install.

Re: Handle Install Advice
They also make hot glue pellets now that are kinda like rice or couscous grain sized that may work for hot gluing handles. I got a bag, but havent tried them yet. This may be absolutely silly, but I thought about the expanding insulation foam since it hardens, has glue-like properties and is expand...

Re: Does a no ferrule handle have more likelihood of splitting?
This thread caught my attention. I am about to install my own handle for the first time. A guy at a shop told me not to because he said it is very easy to crack the handle (which I do not believe). That said, it sounds like it happens. When you guys write that cracks result from "not drilling ...

Re: Does a no ferrule handle have more likelihood of splitting?
Short answer: no.
Longer answer, I have only seen cracking on one and two piece handles when a customer installs themselves and crams the handle in without removing enough material from the tang hole. The other important detail is enough adhesive to spread the stresses out over the entire tang.

Re: Handle Install Advice
Since we're on the subject, has anyone found it necessary or worth it to make a jig to get the install straight on the first try? I've had to redo an install a couple times after realizing it was tilted or crooked.. If there's any tips and tricks for this I think would be helpful too. I don't. I sp...

Re: Handle Install Advice
I've thought about replacing the handle on my Yuki Gyuto. I ordered it with the intent of replacing the handle. Just like the OP, I have every tool imaginable plus a ton of beeswax or hot glue...so I just need to do it. I wasn't sure what folks use to fit the tang....I may need a small rasp. I have...

Re: Handle Install Advice
Who ever says you can't... silly. My go to is hot melt glue. Use files to get the fit where you want it. Squirt hot melt glue into the tang hole. As much as you can. It doesn't take much. If the tang hole is thin, don't worry about it, just do what you can. Place some hot melt glue on the tang. This...

Re: Help me design my next batch of knives.
Thank you all for the feedback. I also posted this to knife a facebook group and IG.
The knife makers that dominate my IG followers, suggested gyutos. The knife enthusiast facebook people, minus the makers in that group wanted ktips.
I will make 3-4 of each with this batch.
Thank you!!

Help me design my next batch of knives.
I have plenty of 1/16th inch AEBL 2 inches tall in the shop. I am thinking of a more budget friendly batch of knives. Help me design them! Ktip or Gyuto?

Re: Is there a “best” steel?
Ok. Here's my experience to back up my next statements. 15yrs ago we got shuns and Mac's as wedding gifts. They worked. I know how to use them without chopping them. About 8yrs ago I found CKTG (thank you M & S). I tried my first tojiro cheap white steel Nakiri with a ho handle and thin grinds. ...

WTS: Handles
I have a collection of handles I have made sitting in the shop. Some of these are me trying something new. Others were made to show off on social media. While I check the forum everyday, I don't post that often. Prices on handles vary with materials. As is - wooden handles - $100-125 Metal spacer ha...
