Re: Has anyone seen the Konosuke HM for sale on Ebay?

The HMs are definitely super cool. They were made during the first period that Morihiro wasn't as active for Konosuke, and Konosuke was trying to investigate other products they could make. Jeff is correct, they never publicly stated the Blacksmith or Sharpener; but the blacksmith is Not one that wa...

Re: Show us your new knife!

These stainless clad ARE in fact forged by Yoshikazu Tanaka, the Fujiyama blacksmith.

As far as why he's making them for Hitohira, but didn't ever for Konosuke.. Makes a person wonder for sure.

Re: Kaiju II

… Since the person that was doing most of the hand work has relocated back to Canada I don't know if there will be many more Kaiju in the future?… Just wanted to hop in quick. He hasn’t actually. He’s still in Japan. And actively working on more original Kaiju. Just slowly. “Kaiju II” idea sounds c...

Re: Show us your new knife!

Honestly I’m jealous! The amount of time and patience that must have taken to acquire that many Konosukes has got to be astounding! I see some of y’all with 20-40 Fujiyamas… like how??? I fought to get ONE! ..... Only crazy people out there have 20-40+ Fujiyamas. Who would ever spend there time doi...

Re: Show us your knife collection.

For the cleaver nakiri portion of my knives it might end, but I have to agree, if Konosuke happened to come out with an HD nakiri or any kind of nakiri or lightweight cleaver/tall nakiri or Kiri I would have to revisit this topic. Fujiyama Nakiri anyone? Konosuke does still make HD2 Nakiri actually...

Re: Konosuke Updates

How exactly does a Kaiju differ from a thicker batch FM? Also, what are other workhorses in the market that might be considered peers (or competitors?) of the Kaiju? About the latest FM, please refer on this page! http://www.konosuke-sakai.com/index.php/fm-fujiyama/ Thanks, but I couldn't find the ...

Re: Konosuke KAIJU; a Knife Enthusiast's Review

Phew… Okay. So there you have it. Konosuke’s brand new ‘KAIJU’ has been unleashed. For those of you skipping for the TL;DR? $600. First batch all have ziricote handles with blond horn. Come with hazuya finger stones. 240mm edge length. 54.5mm height. 241 grams. 4mm at the spine above the heel. Thick...

Re: Konosuke KAIJU; a Knife Enthusiast's Review

So far, I’ve been very complimentary of the Kaiju. And that may have “what a shill!” warning bells firing in your brain. But I do have a few complaints / critiques of the blade that I hope are addressed in future iterations. The first pertains to spine thickness and height. When I visited Japan in O...

Re: Konosuke KAIJU; a Knife Enthusiast's Review

I feel like I should take a second to really talk about how incredible it is that Konosuke does this. Yes, there are other knife makers that use natural stones on their knives. But very few of them are completely polishing a hamaguri-style blade; many of them are just finishing a wide bevel knife, w...

Re: Konosuke KAIJU; a Knife Enthusiast's Review

From a grind perspective, the Kaiju is kind of crazy. One of the words of wisdom that I used to see thrown around on this forum a lot is that the choil shot doesn’t tell the full story. And.. I never disagreed with this.. but I also never ran across a knife that I felt REALLY offered a different cut...

Konosuke KAIJU; a Knife Enthusiast's Review

http://i.imgur.com/fSpsF5Ub.jpg So lets start things off transparently; I’m the same guy that wrote the Konosuke Fujiyama History post. I’m a huge Konosuke fan. They are far from the only maker I’ve collected, but they for sure are my favorite. Additionally, I paid for this knife- it was not provid...

Re: Konosuke Updates

My 240 B2 FM with standard Konosuke handle is 184grams. The 'drawings' have to represent weights without handles. If they're doing the Kaiju with ebony? We could see weights around 240 grams easy.

Yeah, weights are given without a handle.

I’d love for them to post a section that gives standard weight of each handle, so a person could “do the math” themselves

Re: Konosuke "New" FM

I'm definitely NOT saying I'm right, I'm far from an expert here. I agree that the first paragraph is about the FM inception and goals. But I can see how that post as a whole, and especially the underlined part, along with the new release of the larger than normal B#2 through Mark could have caused...

Re: Konosuke "New" FM

A few quick thoughts from reading through the thread. Sad I was late to the party and didn't pop in sooner. I know the point has been made a couple times earlier, but it would REALLY help EVERYONE if, when referring to Fujiyama, we quantified the Year Made, the Steel, and also whether it is an FM Fu...
