Re: Master List of Perma Soaking Stones
i have been soaking the Kohetsu 2k for about a year now. no problems and i really like it, nice and creamy but cuts fast. how about the Kohetsu 3k (also called the Yahiko True Grit 3000)? just bought it but haven't received it yet. it is a bit of a different stone from the Kohetsu 2k. i would like t...

Re: 3m 77
upon further observation, i see they have two versions of super 77, regular, and industrial strength. not sure if it matters which one to get.

3m 77
so i plan on mounting some strops onto EP blanks, and full size stones onto glass bases. i understand 3m 77 is the stuff to use. would someone know if that is 3m 77 multipurpose, or permanent, variety?

question about grit rating
i have a shapton glass 2k stone. is this particular rating a JIS rating? and, if i wanted to get another stone, from a different manufacturer, similar in grit to this SG stone, should i be looking at a rating of 2000 JIS?
thank you
thank you

Re: I do some weird shit when sharpening.
Ken, interesting that you say this. I never breathe in during a stroke but sometimes, most of the time, I breathe out quickly to about a half empty lung and then slowly exhale during the stroke

Re: Large leather strops
I have the Richmond strop base, it's good and sturdy, I really like it. I also have several stops that are 3 x 11 to go with it. I like everything about the whole Richmond system

Re: I do some weird shit when sharpening.
maybe the pinky thing would be a good test, not for detecting a burr, but for detecting the presence of royalty! for me, i tend to hold my breath as i execute an edge leading or trailing stroke, only breathing in between strokes

Mark, do you plan on repairing these chips on the stones, or with a belt sander? Just curious, thanks.

so far my favorite touch up is 1u BC on full size balsa. i'm experimenting right now with 1 u diamond spray and 1 u diamond paste both on balsa. i might try the 1 u CBN next

Grant, thanks for the Takeda video. interesting technique, simple but certainly gets the job done and that edge was sharp!

Re: How to detect a burr
i can usually detect a small burr by running my thumb nail along the edge in a combination lateral and trailing motion. i give credit to Jason B for the idea. it works well.

Re: Push or pull
there is a third stroke variation, if you will. edge lateral, or swiping the edge sideways with very light pressure for the purpose of removing the burr.

Re: Deburring paper by Dr. Vladim Kraichuk
i have Ken's 4 micron diamond bar. great stuff for removing burrs made of difficult carbides, when put on a linen or felt belt. my understanding from the experts here on the forum, as far as a good technique to remove burrs with a waterstone, is to swipe the blade laterally or sideways on the stone ...

Re: sharpening a ceramic knife?
Thanks, Ken. I have your 16 and 4 micron CBN emulsions. would putting a few drops of each of those on a 1k and 4k ceramic waterstone, respectively, also be a good alternative to sharpen a ceramic knife?
