I like what JNS does and offers a discount while the proprietor is away on vacation on the understanding the knives/stones will ship when they return.

Not all Ku is created equal and often its an artificial finish applied by the maker. This will eventually wear off.

Ah thought so. Fellow Tintin aficionado here too. My Ebay usernames are snowy_1964 and tintin_1964. I have a lot of kitchen merchandise from the Tintin collection (mugs, egg cups etc). Have never lost the interest since I was a young kid and now I'm 56......lol Sounds like a TF could be your perfect...

If you have some time in Tokyo, go check out Teruyasu Fujiwara's store. They have a small workshop out back which you can book to get some hands on experience with knife making techniques.
