Ha! No..another word about Toyama..I’d much rather pay $450.00 for a Toyama than $1000.00 for a Shig, I don’t feel the Shig is really that much nicer than the Toyama.

The additional marking on the blade is called kao I believe, it’s Katos way of designating a blade as perfect.

I actually use hydrogen peroxide..wipes and liquid. Just as effective as bleach, but it won’t kill you if you ingest a bit of it.

+1 on the hi soft. I’ve had end grains, plus hinoki, which I was very enthusiastic about until I got the hi soft. I can’t recommend it enough.
