The additional marking on the blade is called kao I believe, it’s Katos way of designating a blade as perfect.

I actually use hydrogen peroxide..wipes and liquid. Just as effective as bleach, but it won’t kill you if you ingest a bit of it.

+1 on the hi soft. I’ve had end grains, plus hinoki, which I was very enthusiastic about until I got the hi soft. I can’t recommend it enough.

Right where my finger is in the last picture. The handle is heavier than normal, but it’s not solid mammoth, so balance is pretty neutral.
