Re: Black Lotus and others

On a side note, my last pickup was a Rader...I know who forged, shaped, heat treated, ground, finished and handled the knife....Rader. I don’t know why, but that makes me happy.

Re: Black Lotus and others

There is certainly a law of diminishing returns at the higher end of the price range, for both Japanese and western makers. If you are looking for absolute value in the 200-300 range, Japanese makers cannot be beat. Much of that is in the way they make knives. It is often a consortium of makers pool...

I think today was the all-time record for orders. We had 3 shipping stations going all day. It was fun! :)
Nice. Do you do better on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

Re: Show us your new handle

Not a new handle, just a new shade. Wanted to try burning ho wood so the Masamoto got the treatment. Burned, sanded and buffed...still not sure what type of oil I want to use, but as is, I like it:

Lol, most of her views are likely from us. I keep going back to this, not sure why, there are just so many things wrong with the way the conversation was even approached. Does she somehow believe she is a influencer? Does thinking you have influence make you behave in ways that normal society finds ...

Re: Rika 5000 problem

I see this a lot, most especially among users who fall for the 1k /6k approach. They get a mediocre 1k edge and quickly jump to 6k to fix the edge. Low grit edges are where the work is. Precise edges. You should go back to coarser grits and learn to do them well first before the 5k Rika. The fault ...

Re: Ideal traveling kit

I would take a 1k and 6k diamond plate. JkI makes a great set albeit a little on the costly side, or just some DMT. Won't have to worry about them breaking and they do a fine job on the knives you are sharpening.

Re: Show us your new knife!

Choil shots on Raders are generally not indicative of the grind due to the forged bolster. It appears different right at the choil than the rest of the knife.

Second on the drool comment, I have yet to see a Rader I was not impressed with.
