Re: 5000 Nubatama Bamboo Video

Shapton pro 5k is, imo, the worst stone in their line up. Horrible feedback. If this is closer to the Rika with less dishing it's a win.

Ken, would like to try this out. Do you have any in stock?

Re: Most sought after gyuto knives?

Tough one, out of a thousand members you may get a thousand different answers.

For me, I would love a Burke San Mai with sheep horn handle or one from Mareko would be awesome. I am perpetually on Raders list and can't recommend him enough.

Wow. That is some serious effort. Nice work Steve. There should probably be a big party for batch 100.

Re: Show us your new handle

This is going on my Masamoto. One of my favorite woods karelian birch, skipped the traditional ferrule in lieu of simple mokume caps. I think it highlights the wood better. Very nice! Did you make the mokume? I want to try some soon. I wish, like you I would like to try some, but have not had the r...

Re: Good Rocker

As a dedicated rocker, tough one. The new Tojiro on the site looks like it might work profile wise, but the edge looks almost too thin. https://www.chefknivestogo.com/toatstdagy241.html I rock a fair amount as well and have always found my Tanaka well suited for the task. Another outlier that you wi...

Re: Millennial wedding gift

I don’t really understand this thread... millennials are everyone ages 24-39. How could we possibly pick a gift that would work for anyone in a 16 year age bracket with no other information? Avocado toast?! Fair enough. I am just a simple burger flipper and it made sense in my mind, but it works di...

Yes, mineral oil with a bit of bees wax will work wonders.

Millennial wedding gift

Okay so I admit, I'm old school. it doesn't have to be knife-related. But what do you get a millennial these days for a wedding gift?

Re: What are the negatives of getting a maker's stainless version?

I don't know that there are any negatives, possible differences, yes, but not negatives. The zdp Sukenari and the AS Sukenari are similar, but not totally identical. I believe for the most part you can expect a similar level of fit and finish, but grinds and profiles may be different.

Just a few tweaks and this would be THE knife brand to beat...as is, just too many issues. Glad you found one that worked for you. Playing the TF lottery is out of my price range.

Musk Ox question

I am going to play with some musk ox horn next week before I attempt a serious project with it. If you have worked with it before, is there a difference between the honey and cream horn? Can I use both, or is it just the honey color section that can be used? https://i.imgur.com/TUKrMTL.jpg Also, how...

Re: What did you cook today?

Got our hands on some secretos, which I've most often heard described as pork skirt steaks. They're pretty similar to their beef counterparts in appearance and texture . . . http://www.ronniesuburban.com/photos/food/homecooking/secretos/secretos.20.0903.02.seasoned.jpg Secretos Salt and pepper. Re: Scratches.....

I take them out... Ken Sorry for probably silly question but how do you take them out? Is it a process that needs real skill to do? I've used 150 sandpaper to take scrathes out of a knife after thinning it, but its not perfect. However, with this knife if I attempt it I'd like to restore it perfect...

Re: EDC suggestions

I wear a suit a lot of the time so I like something slim that I can put in my interior jacket pocket. Been using the Boker Urban trapper. Simple vg-10 but feels good to hold, sharpening seems easy enough.
