This gets the brain moving. 😀 Wondering about a thin round file ran along the inside edge while SLOWLY rotating the mechanism? Then sandpaper for the outside burr?

With that style you can get closer to the dowel. No guessing where the dowel starts.

Munetoshi butcher. I have 2, one original and another I ground shorter specifically for deer/game. Wrapped the handle with a thin rubber. Not aesthetically pleasing but works for me.

More permanent solution would be some epoxy. Would have to build a small form with masking tape on one end. ( that would work since it appears we are talking just a mm or two). Over pour the length slightly, then sand it down to make it fit like you like it. Granted this depends on your skillset/the...
