Re: Stone is a tiny bit short. How to fix it?

More permanent solution would be some epoxy. Would have to build a small form with masking tape on one end. ( that would work since it appears we are talking just a mm or two). Over pour the length slightly, then sand it down to make it fit like you like it. Granted this depends on your skillset/the...

Re: Hard(er) coarse stone?

I have both. And I concur. I bread knife the really bad edges on the 150 edge of the stone and then prelim set a bevel on the 150 but I find I can usually do both when I only have the 500 with me. Either or/ or both ways would work just fine.

Listen to everything Peter just said. Then go find his videos.

EDIT: read it 3 times. THEN go find the videos.

Trust me on this.

It's easy on google search, then thank me later. :)

+1 You're better off with cheaper blades and sharpening them rather than nicer ( more expensive) blades. Stainless all the way for your situation.

Re: J-nat addiction. I just might have a problem.

What's the stone? Not sure yet. That's the fun of it. While named mines and stratas do come with a pedigree, branching out into the unknown is part of the journey. I have found some not so good stones with no pedigree but I have also found some ringers with no names that will never leave my hands. ...

Re: J-nat addiction. I just might have a problem.

I have a friend who owns a tile/slate countertop company. He has the waterwheels to flatten it. I wouldn't want to try it by hand. :)

J-nat addiction. I just might have a problem.

As I get deeper and deeper into this rabbit hole, I keep finding interesting stones.

Now, THIS one had my attention. ( Next to my Kohestu 240mm ) 17" x 8" x 2"

Can't wait to cut into her and see what I have. :)

Re: Matsubara Ginsan Damascus

Only in a couple of cases has it worked for me. Of course this was on a 95* day so I'm only assuming the drastic temp change helped.

Same with the oven. It has worked also but neither method is foolproof.
