Re: PayPal Family & Friends

If you use Pay Pal to buy goods pay the damn fee! Anything else is dishonest! Don't want to pay PayPal then don't play in their sandbox! Send a check or a money order. It will cost you either way. And that is why we have the rule in our classified section. CKTG want to keep this above board, and rig...

Re: PayPal Family & Friends

There should be no disagreements going on regarding this. If you use PP to buy an item or service you should pay the fees. It is both legally, and more importantly, morally the right thing to do. They are providing a service and should be paid for it. And BTW.....in most cases it's not the vendor wh...

Re: Upgrade from a bamboo cutting board

Ok, I’m intrigued by the hi soft. I haven’t had issues with hinoki other than staining, but I otherwise really like them. Are the hi soft somewhat non slip? Do they soak water at all? Non slip and do not soak water at all. they are composite boards. Don't get the ones with a wood core. I bought a s...

Clearly vertical on a computer or pad. But on a phone it is not so successful.

Re: Upgrade from a bamboo cutting board

Might as well cut on cement as bamboo. It is the worst thing you can do to any knife!
I have fallen in love with Hi-Soft boards.
I actually have not sharpened one knife since I got mine.

I've been happy using a temperature probe on larger steaks and roasts for doing this on the BBQ. Get some smoke then too.

An instant read thermometer makes a world of difference!
I never cook meat, poultry, fish etc without one. Indispensable.

Re: Carbon Skillets

I have become an ardent proponent of the reverse sear method of cooking steaks and chops. Next to a sous vide, for me it is the most reliable and effective way of getting that perfectly controlled result on any thick cut of protein. https://www.seriouseats.com/2017/03/how-to-reverse-sear-best-way-t...

Re: Carbon Skillets

Cooked up some pork chops in the 14" Mineral B tonight. This was the first time cooking with it. Worked great but ended up losing most of the seasoning that I put on with the salt/oil/potato skin method. Found this out when I was drying it on the stove with a film of water inside it. Instantly form...

Re: Deba vs Funayuki

Welcome to the forum brotondo. Interesting question. I would not make a deba or funayuki my first (or second, or third) choice for slicing sashimi. My take is that a deba is not a knife for slicing fish. While a funayuki in the correct form might be able to take on this task along with filleting and...

Re: Show us your new knife!

Hi guys.
I created this thread so we could all show off out new knives and receive the accolades and envy we all so desire.
If any particular knife needs more investigation or comment we should probably take it to a new thread.
Many thanks.

Re: Carbon Skillets

It’s not that the handle melts, but the silicone coating on it I guess Yes that is the issue not the melting point of steel. I also have a Mineral B and it amazes me how that coating does effectively insulate the handle. I doubt i will ever put the pan in an oven over 500F so not a concern for me. ...

Re: PayPal Family & Friends

We do not allow F+F sales on the CKTG forum. We also do not allow people to ask for PP fees as a separate item. Just add 3% and get on with your lives! AND don't forget to insure the package for the sale price value. This is the correct and upstanding way to do business. What people do behind closed...
