I agree with the statement on the Beston 500. A damp pile of sand. The Bester 1200 is still a good standard mid-grit stone in my opinion. Near $100 would be the 8000 Naniwa Snow White. The 8000 grit Gesshin is also a great stone and one Jon recommends as a follow up to the 4000 or 6000 grit Gesshins.
