SOLD - Takada Suiboku B1 210 Petty/Suji
Up for grab here is Takada's 210 petty-suji in Blue #1 steel with Suiboku finish and rosewood handle. The brand new in box knife has never been used, not one cut. Reckon most people are at least somewhat familiar with this line so I'll just comment that it probably is the most gorgeous thing I've he...

Re: New line Yahiko Ginsan Nashiji Hand Engraved
The handles are made to be removeable for maintenance; they are often just burned onto the tang. 5 minute epoxy or silicon sealer will make it more sturdy and harder to remove if you want it that way. I don't know exactly how OP held his knife but that handle must've been unusually loose for it to ...

Re: Wok suggestions?
Upshot: despite a good price, solid build, I will probably end up returning it. On to the next. I appreciate the detailed report . . . and welcome to the Goldilocks multi-wok club. 8-) Every once in a while, I always get pulled back like Michael Corleone. I have a fair deal of experience with cast ...

Re: Wok suggestions?
While perusing the wok aisle of Bezos Mart, I happened across one that I had never seen before: preseasoned carbon steel offering from OXO, a company that tends to make decent, if occasionally over-engineered, products. And look at that, I was also lucky enough to find a "Like New" item ma...

Re: Wok suggestions?
As for woks, my family bought me a knockoff version of a ZhenSanHuan hand hammered wok and I love it. The wok is made of thicker carbon steel and I understand why I’ve seen that thicker and heavier isn’t really bad. The wok stays hot when filled and very few of us have a burner hot enough to hand t...

Re: Is honyaki worth of money?
Above a certain price point around $200-300, you are no longer paying extra for performance, but rather aesthetics, fit & finish, collectibility, luxury, and other soft factors. I.e. If you are willing and able to drop a pretty penny on a honyaki because it's cool, then sure, it'll be worth the ...

To start, I'm not terribly tall at 5' 9, so this may well explain everything to follow. How do y'all wield these xxxtra tall blades at 80mm+ with any dexterity? I've tried a couple different types, incl. the ever-popular Shibata Tank, and just could never find these comfortable. My elbow naturally h...

Re: Wok suggestions?
My wok has always been somewhat of a headache as far as the seasoning is concerned. Had real bad sticking the past couple times using so I've stripped the seasoning and started over. If it continues to be a problem it will be replaced quickly in the very near future. Is it possible for some carbon ...

Family in Canada visited for the first time since the plague, brought along some treats from the Great White North. Cornbread w/ jalapeños, dried anchovy, and most importantly here, maple syrup in the batter and to serve. https://i.imgur.com/OMmEwZh.png https://i.imgur.com/H9Xzo6x.png Not the most t...

Re: Update from Volodymyr
I've been following this war fairly closely. Absolutely devastating what has happened there. And while I don't know enough to say with too much conviction, fighting in the northern part of the country appears to have cooled off. Sincerely hope Volodymyr and his family will stay safe.

Two-egg omelette with some diced smoked ham on the inside. Always glad when Omelette Day doesn't pivot to Scrambled Egg Day.

Re: Like the Takamura R2, but 240 mm
Shibata. You seem drawn to lasers, and that's a great one. I'm not sure what price will be, though. It would probably be my first choice, but it's been out of stock forever. Alas, the 240 Shibata Koutetsu was just in stock earlier this week. I'd recommend signing up for email notifications on anyth...

I'm assuming it's 不鏽鋼 meaning "stainless steel". (Literally "Not-Rust-Steel".) Nice one Qapla'! Mystery solved :D One half of the mystery solved! Thanks everyone. Any thoughts on the opposite side of the blade and the changes to the kanji over time? I know this one: "Ao&quo...

Lighting and framing not quite up to par, but the Kashima sliced and diced away with ease, as always. Red sauce in the pressure cooker, later finished in a hot oven for a touch of darkening.

The one knife that pains me that i ever traded. I did get an exceptional knife in return that i believe to be the single best all-around knife i've ever used (comet honyaki 240) so i can't say it was a bad move...i just miss that knife and it would now complete my kono-trinity with the kaiju and vi...
