Re: Magnacut
I really like it. If you leave a zero grind behind the edge, it sharpened up really easily. My last batch I heat treated to 61.5-62 Hrc to maximize toughness.

Re: Daovua leaf spring tall nakiri handle removal
It’s been a while, but I have knocked off more than a few. The Dao handles I have removed have all had oddly shaped tangs and difficult to remove handle.
I know Dao have worked on improving their process.. maybe they improved the tang and handling process.

I ordered wire racks for my workshop. Just like any other online retailers. I forget who the carrier was, but they arrived.

Rikon 50-161VS Power Tools 1 x 30 Inch Belt, 6 Inch Disc Variable Speed Sander https://a.co/d/hFNBgIm Ceramic belts are the gold standard for knife makers. The ceramic media fractures with use revealing fresh edges. Without enough pressure the ceramic glazes over instead of fracturing. You can try. ...

Rikon makes a 1x30 with variable speeds. I don’t think those have enough power to make ceramic belts with the extra $$$. Try red label abrasive AO belts.

Re: Rust Inhibiter For A Tang
I agree with Tim, epoxy is a good choice. If you wanted to think outside the box, you could use hot melt glue. You would have to be quick in the assembly. Heat the tang with a torch until the glue stick melts. Any squeeze out can ce cut with a razor and the whole thing will come apart if you boil it...

Re: advice for wa handle replacing
I’ve done a few re handles at home, and I’ve notice sometimes there’s additional shims they glue to the tang and then glue the whole apparatus into the handle, maybe you can do the same with little strips of wood shims, maybe even tooth picks? I also use Hot glue instead of cold and Sometimes I deb...

Re: advice for wa handle replacing
I have recently switched to hot glue. I don’t add cold glue to the tang hole, I am afraid it might not melt and will rattle around after the install, I just add hot glue with the glue gun to the hole. Then heat up the tang and push it in. It doesn’t take much.

Lots of potential for scams, regardless of what you use. PayPal is likely the best protected, but certainly between the buyer and seller. I don't use anything but PayPal for those on the forum who I don't know. Well said. Venmo (a subsidiary of PayPal) now offers “purchase protection “. For what it...

Re: Learn to make knives in Kochi Japan
This sums it up. I do stock removal as a hobby business, it’s profitable, but I would struggle to support my family. It is fun, and rewarding. No, you lose more money making knives than buying them!!! If you want to be a millionaire as a knifemaker, start with 2 million! LOL. Forge, anvil, heat trea...

Re: Metallurgist question re Carbon Steel
I have thought about what it would take to make a clad pan that layers carbon steel to a conductive core. The short answer, it’s not easy.
You may get some galvanic reaction that don’t happen when chromium is present, but I have to dig into see if I can back that statement up with science.
