Sharpening alternatives

Post by limpet »

Please feel free to post any crazy sharpening techniques/machines in this thread.

Here’s a video with a jig clearly made by an ENGINEER. Easy to make room for in your garage. I like that it ”obliterates the old edge”. Also check out the unique sharpness test at 4:40.

No thanks. But have met engineers who would overcomplecate stuff like this all the time. 😂😂

Imagine what the spine of the blade looks like after that treatment. Yikes! I will give him props for being creative. I don't think I've ever seen a sharpening jig even close to that one.

Yeah, obliterates is definitely the right word there.. With a little sandpaper glued to the underside of the bottom bar you could ease the spine and sharpen the edge at the same time.
So tempted to call this guy.

I'm dying at 1:50 when he snaps the knife into place and the (salsa?) music kicks on.

You mean it's not common to test sharpness on branches from your backyard! :?

Yikes!! I'm an engineer haha and I think that there are a few problems here that, to me, all seem to stem from this guy not really understanding the process of sharpening properly or in enough detail.
