Restoration (so much info in one video)

Have you guys seen this fellow make a pasta knife?

In any case, this clip where he restores a rusted deba seemed packed full with all manner of info I've been gleaning from folks on this forum, only here it is given visually;
Beginning with rust-removal by sanding (and the tools he used), and ending with a high-mirror finish (with low contrast).
Just thought I'd post here

Yeah, dude has loads of patience. Rewarding to watch but frustrating to think about.

It’s amazing he did that with mostly sandpaper and some elbow grease. Give the man a bench grinder!

Yesterday I got my hands on a tiny little Takashima tomae, and happily brought my own Tanaka Deba to a similar mirror finish. Bliss.
Now to figure out how to get some more contrast there. Perhaps just a wee-bit of patina

My wife is going to think I’m crazy when she finds all the sponges cut into pieces.

For sure it is, talk about tendinitis inducing. On the other hand...12 million views and the money that comes with it...maybe he can afford a robot arm. ;)

Haha. I admit I watched it. But the millions of hits are clearly from his other videos. Making knives from cardboard, pasta, carbon fiber, and all in a tiny Japanese apartment...this guys has created a following the hard way! Good for him.

Just saw this. Wow that fella has a lot of patience. I wonder what he’s using to wrap the sandpaper around. It’s quite impressive.

Looks like a rubber door stop wedge.
