Pretty excited about my newest handles

Post by Bensbites »

Here are some handles I just finished. I friend send me two Tojiro Shirogami Yanagi 270mm and told me to keep one in exchange for the handles. These handles were only scoping out design concepts. New wood arrives tomorrow, so onto the next round. There are more photos on Instagram @ben_makes, but the multiple photos in Instagram are not coming through in the code.

You seem to have skipped the whole novice handle maker phase.

Super nice handles! Nice to see some woods not often used for Japanese wa handles too. Looks like walnut and leopardwood? What are the bolsters and endcaps, wenge and maple?

The ferrule and endcap are East Indian Rosewood. The stripes are maple, and the bodies are African Mahogany (top) or Leopardwood (bottom) I have done walnut as well, what a beautiful wood. Thank you!

Do you folks think there is a market for these? I have really enjoyed making them so far, the fit and finish is improving with every round.

There is a market for these. Start an Etsy shop, a Facebook page, and if you'd like have Mark make a subforum for your work.

VERY nice handle! I love the clean, crisp edges of the octagon. So often they get rounded.

Thanks. I have CKReefs four handles in progress. Another one for a friend, and a couple I will stockpile for sale.

If you folks encourage me I will test out some of my more interesting ideas.
