New home

Post by arthurfowler » Fri Jul 06, 2018 3:45 pm

Hi

I just moved home and I used to keep my knives on magnetic holders in a cabinet in my study. However in the new house, no cabinet so I looked for another solution. I have 2 young boys so they had to be secure. I searched on line for free standing cabinets and found something from Ikea that was cheap (relative compared to knives), lockable and makes a bit of a feature out of the knives.

Before moving I oiled all the knives and put them in their original box/packaging and kept them in a plastic box for 4 or 5 days A few ended up with a few spots of corrosion that I need to deal with.

Best

Way cool!
We are selling our home and when we eventually get settled into a new place this is exactly the kind of set up I would like.

I've seen those cabinets before, usually used (as you'd expect) for glasswear. I think the real genius here is using the corks! That really adds a lot to the presentation. Thanks for sharing.

Comments: I'm short, a home cook, prefer lighter, thinner blades, and own mostly Konosukes but have used over a dozen brands.

Thanks Ray, really pleased with how it turned out. Good luck with the sale of your home.

Thanks Joe. You are so right about the cork, it is genius. However I cannot take credit, others have used them for some time on this forum. I originally put them in on their sides and the whole thing just looked a little flat. The cork really did transform it.

This is a very cool idea! One that I may employ sometime.

I'm thinking I like that even better than my wife's "frame in the wall" idea. Very nice looking!

I'm Dave. I don't take myself too seriously and you probably shouldn't either.

Thanks guys. Nevrknow, I think I was also originally thinking along the lines of your wife with some kind of deep picture frame that was recessed in the wall with a hinged opening.

Looks like a chef knife dojo. Pretty sweet. Didn’t you just sell like 10 knives too?

Nice. I recall seeing your collection and being a bit jealous.

Wife caught me eyeing these and asked if I was going to get one for my knives. Guess that opens a door for me so to speak. ;)

But does it expand storage space?

Go for it Jeff. I think my wife secretly likes the cabinet. She would never admit it though!!
