Charles Atkinson Pass Around

Post by ChefKnivesToGo »

I have a good customer in the UK who generously offered me a knife and I thought I would offer it up for a passaround so you guys could have some fun with it. Let me show it to you and then we can discuss.
The Blacksmith's name is Charles Atkinson

Looks like it’s made from a railroad spike. I’m definitely in.

Hi everyone, I sent this knife to Mark for the pass round. Having bought Takeda, Konosuke & Masakage from this site in the past I was spoiled at home with good knives! A few months ago I was doing some photographic work for a local master Blacksmith here in Cornwall, England (King Arthur and Excaliber land!) I was blown away by his work. He mainly specialises in custom work for high-level clients and royalty but I suggested the idea of making some knives. He was intrigued so I lent him some of my collection and this is the first result! Below is a picture of the actual knife that will be doing the rounds. It has been polished to a more jewellery like finish.

What I love about his work is that he is creating these knives from a single round of steel that he shapes on his giant hammer. Even the handle is the same piece of metal! No cladding.

He has added a wave to the top of the blade on this model and it also comes with a solid Bronze scabbard to give the knife a more sword-like feel. I'll be very interested to get some feedback on the wave.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll put them to Charles and respond on this thread.

I like to play with knives if you have an open spot. :-)
Plus, it looks like it might work well to clear some of the upcoming spring brush around the yard and scare the hell out of the neighbors!

A unique interpretation to say the least. I'll be following this pretty close to see what people think of it.
