datster wrote: Sun Feb 18, 2018 7:04 pm Alright, had it over the weekend. First, kudos to Ben, very nice job on the handle and block. Gonna talk to you about some blocks for sure. The bunka, for $75, I've already told several people they should buy one. I have a Shibata, Kanehiro and Tanaka so not like it fits in my arsenal but its a cool bunka. Already said, it's light, doesn't seem very reactive. It's a great veggie cutter, a little sticky when I cur onions and mushrooms but I'm a laser fan for those. I cut French fries from some big potatoes tonight, no problem at all. Stuff like peppers, shallots, scallions, carrots, cuts with ease. I like it, may even end up with one some day just because, but definitely a great cutter at that price.
Thank you, let me know what you need.

Oh boy :)
I wasn't following the order, now I've got the Matsubara B#2 AND this Yoshi arriving on the same day.
Let the salads, stir-frieds, and the what-nots come!
I'll go ahead and tell my wife she can bake us bread, and that just about it. The kitchen will be mine for the rest of the week ;)

Knife has arrived in good order yesterday afternoon.
I haven't had much exposure yet, but two things stand out;
- it's really flat (and I gotta adapt to that)
- the handle is flat-out gorgeous! the photos did not do it justice

I'm looking forward to the next cabbage of the week, and everything else it'll be put through.

Well that concludes the passaround. It's on it's way back to me and I'll be sure to post my thoughts on he handle.

Thanks to all participants, and if you haven't yet, please post some thoughts here and/or on the reviews on the bunka item page.

Anxious to get it back!

Back in my possession. Beautiful handle. I always like things better in person. I like the bit of extra length for racket grips and little more length overall since it's only a 170.

Thanks again for letting us experience this knife, Spence! This was my first bunka I’ve tried and I can say that the Fugen was super thin behind the edge, lightweight, and very flat. It’s very well complimented with the Bensbites handle and I thought the use of an unstabilized wood was the perfect choice to keep the knife incredibly light. Can’t say enough about the upgraded handle other than the fact that Ben will have to make me more handles in the future!

My preference is usually the 240 length so this felt very small in hand but it was perfect for taking care of any veggie prep and handled everything I threw at it with ease. Not much heft behind this knife so take that into consideration.

I also did a quick sharpening and the white #1 sharpened up easily. Definitely something I would consider in the future.
