Yoshimitsu AS 180mm Tall Nakiri
Here's the product page for this brand new offering;
https://www.chefknivestogo.com/yoastana18.html
I beleive I have the list of participants compiled, for the most part.
Please pm me your shipping info so I can compile a list. Right now the knife is with datster, then coming to me, then to Ray so he can finish the write-up. Thanks all!

That list looks good. Guys try to keep the knife moving after you use it for a week. Feel free to sharpen it if you want to check it out. I thought it sharpened nicely.
Re: Yoshimitsu AS 180mm Tall Nakiri
Going to Spence either Friday or Monday .... it's pretty cool, love the height and it's got a nice edge. It's a little heavy as Nakiri goes but then again, it's TALL! It's more than my current nakiris and less than my cleavers but you could almost use it either way.ChefKnivesToGo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2018 10:25 am That list looks good. I'll weigh it when I get it. Here's the shipping order after me:
Ray (HI)
Pd7077(CA)
Dan(NM)
Altadan(TX)
Jdavid(GA)
Jbart(DC)
Mdl130(NY)
Home(WI)
Unless anything changes or anyone has suggestions, this seems like a good roundabout trip.

Re: Yoshimitsu AS 180mm Tall Nakiri
Used it today for a salad and it cuts great. I took a few amateur dimensions. It's 186mm on the edge. 66mm tall heel and tip. I did take more for fun, but I will let Ray do the real specs as I'm not exactly sure what I'm doin...though I'm sure it's close.
The KU is fantastic. It feels thick and durable. Super rustic with hammerings and serious texture all over. I haven't had any wipe off at all, though it seems some toward the start of the grind might have wiped off from previous use. Maybe Don can confirm or deny that.
The edge is pretty thin. Looking down from the choil it looks thick and has more of an s type grind, at least from my eyes. But toward the tip it's very thin. More reminiscent of my yoshimitsu Fugen bunka grind.
Good heft and chopping power. Plenty of flat. It's flat from the heel to half way up the edge with a tiny bit of back belly. Also flat for at least a third of the edge length from about starting just behind the midway point of the edge and travels probably a third of the blade length toward the tip and tapers off as the tip starts to rise.
Handle is nearly flawless. The install needs some epoxy or something to fill the gaps. Other than that, the handle is perfect. No steps or gaps at the ferrule, no rough edges, smooth everywhere. Great size for my hands and for the knife imo.
The knife is a "180", but seems like so much more. I'm sure because of its shape and weight but it feels like a cleaver.
The spine is nice and straight and straight out of the handle. Something you might expect, but I've seen some wonky stuff before.
F&F is great too. You could ease the choil slightly on the right side, but it hasn't bothered me in use.
I will comment more on the performance after this weekend, but I can say for sure that I am really liking this knife!!!

I was thinking the very same thing.
If God wanted me to be a vegetarian he wouldn't have made animals taste so good.
Re: Yoshimitsu AS 180mm Tall Nakiri
At first, i was trying to be a gentleman and let others go, but i should of jumped in when it opened up smh. I really would like to compare it to the matsubura tall nakiri. I might want to buy one.

I don't doubt the performance of the Yoshimitsu but I think the Matsubura tall wins that fight.

Re: Yoshimitsu AS 180mm Tall Nakiri
I was thinking Steve should do a roundup of the tall Nakiri from Yoshi, marsubara, and Moritaka.
