Re: Possible Okeya passaround
There they are. To be honest, their edges are in need, they don’t leave the factory very sharp. I’ll probably sharpen the Santoku before it leaves. If one of you participants are good with single bevels maybe we should put you first in line. I’m off to go motorcycling for the weekend. I’ll check back in on Monday and get them sent out on Tuesday. Let me know if you’d like to tune those single bevels up.

Re: Possible Okeya passaround
I'm still waiting on Cody for confirmation on when he'll be making the belt clip sayas for the Okeya 24mm Kogatana.
I'll shoot out some PMs as soon as I have all details.

Re: Possible Okeya passaround
I wouldn't consider myself "good" with single bevels, but my deba is blazing sharp
In other words, I'd be happy to give it a pass [though I can only leave a not-so-beautiful kasumi on it, at best]

Re: Possible Okeya passaround
These should be ready around the end of June. Have 2 of these not spoken for, if I haven't reached out to you and you want one send me a PM.

Re: Possible Okeya passaround
I sent my kogatana and saya to Nakneker, it should arrive on Thursday. Not sure why ups seems to be dragging their feet on this one.. But if you guys want to see the saya you may want Nak to hold off on shipping everything out for a couple days.

Back online. I’ll wait until the Saya and Kogatana arrive. I’ll get a mailing list out on Friday and put this into motion. Ron we should be able to get you in towards the end, shouldn’t be an issue

Re: Possible Okeya passaround
Alright folks,
The collection has made it over to me in good order, and this passaround is a go.
First impressions;
The santoku is very light in hand. Came with a nice working edge, too.
The single-bevel petty was not very sharp coming in. It looks well made, with a pleasant (if narrow) handle. The concave back of the blade lent itself to peel oranges in a singularly spherical (and pleasurable) way
As for the kogatanas - STPepper9's saya works like a charm, and is very, very cool! I would definitely order one for myself if only... if I only knew what to do with a kogatana. What DO you do with yours, STPepper9?
Dan

Re: Possible Okeya passaround
I’m gonna use my Kogatana mostly for a box opener, letter opener and a “what is that?” Kinda of thing. I’ll be interested what others say.

I mostly open boxes and stuff with it, the idea was to use it in lieu of my pocket knife on the days that I forgot it in the previous day's pants. It's come in handy a number of times.

Re: Possible Okeya passaround
I received the 24mm Kogatana sayas today from Cody, they look great! Have a few in both Walnut and Maple. I'll get with those that commited this weekend with final details and then what's left I'll post in the classifieds.

Re: Possible Okeya passaround
I think a holsder\saya with a clip like STPepper9's is eminently useful. That kiridashi is a dangerous thing to leave lying around, but have a safe place to stick it in makes it a whole lot more user-friendly.
The magnet catch works beautifully, too!
