Possible Okeya passaround

Post by nakneker »

I’ve never participated in a passaround and thought I’d run one by the rest of you to if there’s any interest. I was thinking to do a group of Okeya knives, the value on this line seems pretty high. The line is also intriguing to me. Since purchase price is low I was thinking about buying the following knives for a passaround. I’d purchase the knives and include the first 8 to join in. These are kind of knives it would be fun to put your hands and play around with. I’m thinking to keep all four knives together, give everyone a week to play with them. I wouldn’t need any buy in money, I’d just ask you insure them when you ship them. If your a competent sharpener that’s fine too. The combined total is 250.00 for insurance purposes. If there’s no interest no worries. Feel free to PM me any advice or inform me this is a bad idea if you think it is. 🤔 I’d just ask that you have atleast 100 posts on the forum. Shipping outside of the US probably wouldn’t work, I’m not sure what the standard is.

The santoku version of the bunka is on sale, if that matters to you: https://www.chefknivestogo.com/okwh2sa16.html

I think it's a good gesture, too.

There may not be enough interest. Either way I’m going to order 2 or 3 of those items, just curious. I didn’t notice the sale, of hanks for pointing it out.

I substituted the Santuko you linked for the 120mm. Im going to move forward, I’ll send you a Pm when they arrive. I’ve been wanting to check out that folder and the Kogatana. The Bunka and Santuko may just be a catch and release but you never know.

I would probably suggest keeping the petty and letting the bunka go instead, but that's up to you and I would love to try them regardless. I just think the bunka and santoku look almost identical in terms of specs (height, edge profile, weight, handle size, etc) and the santoku is a good bit cheaper.

No, thank you. Your offer is extremely generous. I am certain a few other people will be interested, too, these knives should offer a lot. I could see suggesting them to many coworkers, many if whom liked my similar but reactive Misuzu bunka.

Ok here it is guys,
The tip can be inserted in either direction, I wanted this to use for those terrible days when I forget my pocket knife. The magnets keep it from sliding out when I don't want it to.

I like it, too. I could probably make one for the kogatana that comes around. It looks like a simple enough routing job and I have reasonably easy access to a router table.
