Tanaka Sekiso B#2 Damascus 240mm Gyuto
Tanaka Sekiso B#2 Damascus 240mm Gyuto
This is a tough one. This is a sweetheart of a knife and I love it, but I was a bad man and made big purchase... and now I need to pay, or rather, sell. The only reason this knife was the one to get sacrificed is that I also own its smaller twin (semi-custom handle and all) in the 210 version, which is probably my most used knife.
I never rehandle knives but couldn't resist with this one. It is sporting the CKTG/Isaiah Schroeder blue-dyed maple handle that I think fits the knife perfectly, both from a visual and tactile standpoint. CKTG was accommodating enough to install this handle with my specified 14mm choil gap and though it is a little closer to 15mm, depending on how you are measuring, I find it to be the perfect placement. The wood on this handle is just gorgeous. Obviously the pics wont show it well but of the four of these handles that I have seen in person, this one has the most figure and chatoyance. If it wasn't epoxied on, I would have knocked it off and reinstalled the original.
I have also not just eased, but fully rounded, both the spine and choil.
This knife has seen barely any use in a home environment. I literally might have one hour of total time on this blade and it is barely showing a patina. It has never seen a full progression, I only stropped it once on an Ohira Renge Suita and it is still sporting that hair-popping edge.
I don't have my calipers with me at the moment but by ruler the dimensions are as follows:
height at heel: 52.5mm
length: 243mm
$255 including CONUS shipping but please add 3% for any Paypal fees, if you choose to go that route.

GLWS. This seems like a terrific sale and a great opportunity. If I liked knives this big, I'd bite, but I prefer them a bit smaller.

Hey, thanks guys!
I've long been a Tanaka fan but when I tried the Sekiso I was blown away. They might be the best all around performer I have come across -- and at, what seems to be, about a $200 discount. My Sekisos easily keep up with my $400-500 knives.
This one will hurt. Luckily I'll have my matching 210 to comfort me

Damn, that knife looks just like mine!
I'll second CJ. I have this exact same knife and handle. Helluva looker, but more important, it's my best all-round knife. I've bought and sold dozens of J knives but keep coming back to this one. Does everything well and is an excellent chopper even with a buxom profile.
And it's selling at basically a $50 discount.
I already own a Tanaka Sekiso and ginsan and now I am oogling a VG10. Recently tried the 210 and it was as impressive as any VG10 knife I have tried. Tanaka can't make a bad knife and his consistency appears to have improved quite a bit.

Yes, Jeffry, this was all largely your fault. After getting to try your Sekiso, I fell in love and promptly bought two!

I'd been looking at that 240 vg too. That's why I jumped on that 210 to try and then pass around. Glad it had an impactjbart65 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2017 10:13 pm Damn, that knife looks just like mine!

This is so tempting! Only if I wasn't saving for a Takeda and or a Shibata.
I'm Dave. I don't take myself too seriously and you probably shouldn't either.

No there was too much overlap with the Kanehiro in teams of steel and cutting performance.MisoSatisfried wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2017 1:29 pmHa! Miss your Koishi yet?
