Shinden Suita Japanese Stone - SOLD!

Post by gladius »

For Sale: Shinden Suita Japanese Stone
$243 USD includes shipping & insurance to CONUSA

90mm x 145mm x 35mm
1004 grams

These are well known to cut fast and are easy to use. This one is a kilogram sized stone about a LVL 3.5-4 and generates a good amount of yellow slurry. It is great finisher for knives as it is not too hard and produces an approximate 6k semi-mirror edge - an edge I like on particular type steels like my 210mm Shigifusa Santoku. It combines sharp with bite that lasts with this progression: Amakusa -> Red Aoto -> Shinden Suita.

Here is the mud generated while sharpening the Shigefusa:

Here is the Shigefusa final edge through the Amakusa -> Red Aoto -> Shinden Suita progression:

i am new to natural stones. If I wanted to finish with this, but only have synthetic stones, what might a progression be? I have lots of Choseras.

A Chosera 3k or 5k would be a good synthetic stone to precede the Shinden Suita. After polishing the Shinden Suita can be used to touch up the edge for a long time before needing to go back down to the 3k. The Chosera 3k is a strong cutter as is the Shinden Suita.
