Genkai Masakuni 330mm yanigiba - CLOSED

Post by J david »

For your consideration, a 330mm Genkai Masakuni 330mm yanigiba in white 2 steel.

I purchased this knife new old stock about a year ago and it is the only knife that I have never used. Upon recieving the knife, I sent it to Jon at JKI for a once over and sharpening. He said it sharpened up nicely and there were no surprises in the grind. The vendor I purchased this from in Japan said it is much more rare than the honyaki versions from this famed maker. I tend to believe him due to seeing many honyaki versions for sale but never one of these. I am putting a value on this at ~$1000.00. It is hard for me to put a price on it due to the lack of comparisons, but it is a fair price considering what I paid plus Jon's work. The handle is rock maple with buffalo horn ferule made by me (blade purchased with no handle). Comes with box.

Trades: I'm interest in full trades or partial with cash going either way. I'm looking for interesting gyutos from just about anywhere. I'd be keen on Dalman, Xerxes, Raquin, Tansu, etc. Also interested in Japanese makers, Kato, Ikeda, Togashi, Toyama, Etc. Really anything. If you're interested, make an offer. This is too nice a knife to collect dust in my closet. More pics on request.
Specs:

Heel to tip: 317mm
Handle to tip: 336mm
Handle length : 177mm
Overall: 513mm
Weight : 304 gr
Spine thickness at heel : 4.7mm

It suits the knife incredibly well. Really beautiful work from you, Jon, and of course the smith.

Togashi honyaki gyuto, tall at the heel, thin at the tip. Just like I like them.
