WTS Handles

Post by jobone »

Hello,

Please consider the handles that I am offering for sale. I am fairly new at handle making, however these are nice and beautiful handles. I have a long history of art, craftsmanship and an affinity for wood, with my primary form of art being 20+ years of bonsai and Penjing. Almost all of wood is meticulously hand picked to ensure the highest quality (picking out the wood is really fun)

All handles have been finish with a couple coats of tung oil and finished with a light coat of wax. They are constructed with a hidden dowel.

The sizes can be adjusted for a small fee if you desire thinner or a change in the taper.

Prices includes shipping and are determined by complexity of work, cost of materials and quality of craftsmanship.

If you are not satisfied, I will promptly return your money.

Pictures and details to follow

Cocobolo with Gabon Ebony ferrule and end cap. I really love this piece, the grain is very seductive. I was captivated with the dark shadowy transitions, so I paired it with Gabon Ebony to compliment the grain.
Awesome piece, I will thin or change taper if desired at no extra cost. Medium size for around a 210. I have a little more of the Cocobolo if anyone want a custom.
Price $125
Weight 46g length 135.6
Widths 27.8x23.4 tapers to 24.3x20.8

These are some excellent handles Joe and very reasonable prices. I meant to get a couple at the show but just got so wrapped up in things I forgot to stop back by and grab a couple.

Here are 2 more handles that are available, the body of both are stabilized Spalted Tamarind. The price for each is $70 include shipping to CONUS

Spalted Tamarind with Yucatán Rosewood ferrule and spacers : My first attempt at a D-shaped handle. I think it is very comfortable and I was happy with the results, I hope the next owner will also enjoy it.
D-shaped Price $70 Weight 50g L 142.5 W 25.8x21.5 tapers to 23.3x18.8

Spalted Tamarind with Hormigo ferrule and end cap. The spacers are bloodwood and VF. I accented the contrasting swirls of the spalting lines with the thin black lines of the fiber spacer, which really pops.
Octagonal : Price $70 Weight 44g L 134.6 W 25.1x21.3 22.3x18.8

Here you go.

This was my first attempt at a D-shaped handle and I think it turned out good for the intended shape. In the end, I shut my eyes to get a feel for it and I thought it was very comfortable. It felt right to me.

I got the motivation after talking to Marko at the CKTG party, his were awesome (much better than mine) As a word of caution, he stated that he could do 4 handles in the same time as 1 D-shape. So I took up the challenge. It’s definitley not as easy to do as an octagonal handle and added a decent amount of time. I’ll keep with the octagonal for a while and will try another one when I get more time.

Really enjoying the handle I bought from Joe at the Chicago knife show.

Image

I installed it on my Yamashin W#1 150 petty. The handle was intended for a longer petty or medium sized gyuto so it might be a tad oversized for this application. But the petty is tall, I till have knuckle clearance if it's on the board, an I like the feel of it in hand.

A couple more:
