WTS Two Knives--Sakai Jikko Yosaku K-tip Gyuto and Moritaka AS sujihiki
WTS Two Knives--Sakai Jikko Yosaku K-tip Gyuto and Moritaka AS sujihiki
I've been adding to the collection substantially recently, so it's time to let some go.
First up, a Sakai Jikko Yosaku 210mm K-tip gyuto- $270 including shipping to US: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmsgD4Lg
I used this about 15 times at home over the last 8 weeks, sharpened once. It's a great knife, thin behind the edge, with a really sweet flat spot. I just find that it’s redundant with some of the other knives I own, so I’m letting it go. The core steel is white #2 clad in soft iron, with a d-shaped rosewood handle. There's a bit of patina starting to form, but I believe there's still a lacquer coating along most of the blade that can be removed with acetone or some such.
Second, a 300mm Moritaka Aogami Super Sujihiki/Yanagiba (they call it a yanagiba, but it's double beveled like a sujihiki)- $260 including shipping to US: https://flic.kr/s/aHskL4J4E3
I bought this from GeorgeK about 18 months ago, and it comes with a custom ebony and buffalo horn handle by GopherBroke. The handle on this is beautiful, very elegant and nicely finished. The choil and spine have been eased as well. The knife is great too, but I ultimately found it a bit too long for my preferences. Unlike most Moritaka knives, it has a migaki rather than KU finish. Sharpened just once since its been in my possession. Note that there is not a box for this knife.
If you want more info or measurements or anything, just let me know!

Somebody buy that Jikko, I’m on a self imposed buying freeze and that thing is tempting me.

I've only bought three knives since my buying freeze.

How are liking your Jikko BTW? Did you have a handle already or are you sending it out?

Going to send it out for a handle but that might not happen until after the holidays.
Think I'm really going to like it, it sure is a beautiful knife!

I might be interested in the Moritaka. Could you measure the heel to tip length for me?
Re: WTS Two Knives--Sakai Jikko Yosaku K-tip Gyuto and Moritaka AS sujihiki
Sure thing, it's 295mm heel to tip.
Re: WTS Two Knives--Sakai Jikko Yosaku K-tip Gyuto and Moritaka AS sujihiki
Dang, I was hoping it would be closer to 310mm. Since I had read that moritakas were usually a little oversized. Thanks for taking the time to measure it for me.
