Konosuke Blue Honyaki 240mm gyuto with custom handle - SOLD!
Up for sale is my personal Konosuke Blue Honyaki gyuto. I made this handle for myself for my birthday several years ago, but never really used it much, maybe around a dozen times? I have too many knives I don't use! 245mm tip to choil, 51mm tall at the heel. Blue G10, mammoth tooth and black (paper micarta I think?) ferrule, dark blue burl handle. I originally tried a super glue finish on the handle, but didn't like the way it came out, so I re sanded the handle and went with a tung oil finish. Not all of the superglue was fully removed, so there are areas where the handle is slightly shinier from the super glue remnants, which polish to a higher gloss. There are some scratches/scuffs on the blade from use and storage and a tiny pit/fleck near the heel on one side.
Asking $1300 shipped and insured CONUS.

So I lied. I couldn't resist. Had to get my hands on one to see what all the fuss is about. It may get sold immediately, but at least I'll get to try it.

Damit Ashy, give me some money. I'm tired of watching you buy all these badass knives.ashy2classy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 15, 2019 2:20 pmSo I lied. I couldn't resist. Had to get my hands on one to see what all the fuss is about. It may get sold immediately, but at least I'll get to try it.

Unfortunately, you don't need to have money to buy things. I've been trying to cut myself off but these crazy rare knives keep popping up and I just can't help myself. I have a problem, I know.

Re: Konosuke Blue Honyaki 240mm gyuto with custom handle - SOLD!
It depends on what you call money. A bank account is nice, but this is an ivestment that you can use if nothing else. First Honyaki knife I bought was a bit under 300 bucks (27500 yen in 1994 - still have sales slip) - used it a couple times, and oiled the blade and ebony (back then it was okay to have African ebony) handle and it sits in my knife drawer box (old map case that I keep a bunch of knives in). It was my first Suisin knife as well. Bought it when kids were young, so I used knives I was not afraid let the kids near - they had their own knives from age 7 or so, but they would still grab stuff they thought was cool and experiment - took a very old (1910 or so Trident knife into the backyard to cut worms on concrete).
Back to gist - I wish I would have seen this when it went off - was in meeting at work - I think I could have explained it to Jen. Ashy got one heck of a knive - congrats dude
