Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
So very, very tempted. But I have to wait for a tax return, which who knows how long it will take given the current dysfunction.

Lucky for you the iron cladding still is...what payment method would you like to use?
Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
The original photos look as if most of the original cladding has been mostly ground away. Almost like it was thinned. Which seems odd for a Takeda. Overall that rustic charm is diminished. As it is I'd gladly pay you $150

It looks very similar to the new one pictured below:
- The cladding is not ground away.
- The KU finish came very light like the new one pictured here.
- The beauty of Takeda's are they're "thinned" every time they are sharpened with that zero grind.

Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
I've owned 5 classic finish Takedas and still own 4. Gladius' comments about the KU and the cladding look accurate to me based on his pictures and comparison with my own knives.
The thinning comment is spot on accurate based upon an in person sharpening lesson I received from Takeda-san himself.
Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
To this I would say , he has maintained the blade , and actually done it well from what I can tell .
Most of the KU is preserved and it’s not an unattractive
Kasumi finish he has left there .
It is actually MUCH preferable to someone sharpening it over and over whilst not maintaining geometry.
Finally, the classic aren’t being produced anymore. From what I understand , only the stainless clad NAS are. I think $200 is fair , and at $225 you’re helping with shipping and fees . So fair play all around on the price .
Glws Gladius, I’ve eyed it once or twice myself!
Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
@null_user, perhaps, you are thinking if the Nas. The kurouchi finish is different on that one. It's deeper than the classic. The bevels are the only thing that is thinned during sharpening, so I don't think cladius has messed with the finish.
Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
You all are probably right. The way the light caught the blade gave me the wrong impression. My apologies.
Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
And yeah that is a fair price for a well maintained, master crafted, beautiful work of art.
Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
But sadly I have to pass on it because I just spent $300 on the Takeda Bunka. Perhaps in a few weeks if it's not sold yet.
Re: FS: Takeda Classic Knives
Price reduction!
Takeda Classic Banno Petit now $220 USD - that's $50 off retail.
