Dirty Edge and Clean Edge shots
Dirty Edge, white, light spots reveal the Unclean Edge
Unclean, needs a little more work
Unclean
Clean, objective achieved, Visible Burr removal in hand, invisible burr removal will follow with higher grit stones and variations in pressure. (Invisible to naked eye)
Clean edge, 180 grit stone.
The time difference between my unclean and clean edges varies from 45 seconds to about 3 minutes and I NEVER increase my angle to remove the the Visible Burr.
I hope this helps, it's tricky taking edge shots.

What kind of lighting are you using? Curious if I could use this in my kitchen.

It's a magnifying desk lamp. Like something a jeweller would use, it's very good.

I can see light reflected back from a dull edge quite easily by the light in my kitchen. Sometimes, I'll get close to an under the cabinet fluorescent light to get a better look. These spots on the edge will also feel dull on a slicing or push cut of paper.

Yes that's it, dull has a face .
I've known for years about looking at the edge of a dull knife under light to see reflections but I didn't always incorporate that into my sharpening regime.

I find using natural light through a window also works well, even on a cloudy day.
