Sharpening video

Post by Peter Nowlan »

I get tons of questions about sharpening from nice folks from all over. The most recent from a poor fella in Ireland working at a butchery.

I’ve adjusted my process very slightly so I figure I should update my videos. I did it in one take , far from perfect. I don’t have the same production capacity as Mr Burrfection.

I wanna know what happened to that cool apron you used to don a few years back!

Another great video as always Peter, you've taught me a lot over the years!

Lol Jeff. Didn’t you see the apron in the background. ?

Gladius, the real change was really just a change in my mindset. I used to only form a burr on the first stone. I felt that subsequent burrs meant wasting steel. However, after a long chat with Jon Broida I changed the way I think. I now form a tiny burr on every stone which was likely what I was doing anyway, years ago. So now I know it’s fine.
The other change was my diligence with the light test.
That’s about it.

Ah, didn't even notice it. I was paying too much attention to the master at work! ;)
