Wedding Gift

Post by ChefKnivesToGo »

Hi Steve,

Hope this message reaches you well. I am hoping you could help me with some recommendations. My friend is getting married and I want to give her some knives for her wedding gift. One of which is a good chef knife. I'm looking for a workhorse knife with a good rocking profile, stainless steel (or other metals that resist rust), and has good edge retention (she doesn't sharpen). Western handle preferred. I am not limited to Gyutos and open to explore other knife types. My budget is about $300.

Sincerely,

Cheng

Hi Cheng,

Here are a couple choices that make good gifts. I agree that you should choose stainless, western, 210mm Gyutos with Japanese Kanji.

These are a couple good ones:

Hello Cheng,

While I might defer to Mark's recommendations there is one other knife that I would consider as a gift;

I'm kinda taken with Takamura

The above recommendations are all excellent. Here is another possibility:

She does not sharpen, so you may want to bundle the knife you pick with a honing steel and the Tojiro pull through sharpener.
