Knife for a pair of lefties
My mom wants a serrated knife. She and my dad are both left-handed, and i suspect the reason she wants a serrated knife rather than use her simple Victorinox set may have a real genesis in some sort of physical fact/limitation that a small bevel exists there. Im getting her a Tojiro bread knife- that is a no brainer, but i was wondering if any hardcore, old school lefties out there have ever had any problems with the geometry of the bulk of the cutlery on the market. I get the idea that a single bevel would be difficult, but the entirity of the 50/50 blades should work for obvious reasons. Shes 79, but she could kick a cheerleader’s ass, so theres that. Is being lefthanded that big of a limitation?

Not sure if this is quite the answer you're looking for, but I do believe that Messermeister and possibly a few other vendors do make lefty serrated knives. Lefty gyutos etc. certainly exist (Misono comes to mind, with lefty and righty versions of their main lines).

Thanks, Q. Did not realize that a left handed serrated knife existed, but it makes sense.
Re: Knife for a pair of lefties
In practice a left handed bread knife isn't needed. Unless your parents are trying to do very precise cutting, the bias of a knife won't make.a difference if it below 70/30. That is were I start noticing shearing when using a right hand biased knife. That also seems to be the point were it makes thin precise cuts easier, if it has lefty bias, while.providing a tougher edge than a single bevel.
That being said there really isn't anything that can't be done with a knife with a 50/50 grind that would warrant paying a premium for a left hand biased knife. If they need something more precise skip the left hand biased and get the left.hand single bevel knife. This is assuming they would.use it enough to justify the price.

To be fair the serration on bread knives are on the opposite side of the blade for a lefty, which does cause them to pull slightly with bread...OgerBash wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 10:08 am In practice a left handed bread knife isn't needed.
