Love it Tim! I've got a gyuto in s35vn, it's my go to in stainless. Holds its edge FOREVER!

Looking good! That stacked bolster and frame handle is pretty cool and looks unique.

I also dig the radiused plunge line on that practice knife (same as the earlier post, right?)... What kind of backing are you using to sand up in there tho?

The Gassan is mine. Tim did a fantastic job. I hated the stock handle after awhile, but the knife itself is my favorite 210. It’s actually 218 mm.

The handle not only looks great, it feels great in the hand. The sides are flat and top/bottom somewhat rounded.

Of course i forgot to take pics of this knife before I shipped it. The plunge is not radiused actually this is a typically ground 50/50 bevels with slightly convexed edge its the neck of the knife that has a bit of relief carving to it. Of course I'd only attempt this in a mono steel knife...its a nice tactile feel in a pinch grip, visually adds some appeal IMO but of course not much of a mechanical need for it. The knives of Robert Weinstock and Virgil England was a big influence for me back in the day when I first started drawing things with sharp edges.

Often when I see a damascus blade, I try to imagine how the pattern was formed (which I assume, maybe incorrectly, is from putting more pressure to compress the layers at specific places). I can't even imagine how that would be done on this pattern. Very cool!

This type of damascus is made by mike norris, check out http://mikenorrisdamascus.com/
You can look up the process for making ladder damascus, that is the wavy outermost pattern. The ladder is over a straight pattern i believe is stacked and then cut and re welded just like a mosaic damascus. In the middle we have the XHP core....in order to pull this off it takes the experience of a veteran like Mr Norris...keeping that core centered is no easy feat. It also leaves very little margin for error when I grind the blade, I had to test etch the blade several times as I progressed to make sure it was staying in the center. Its a balance between that wild look and keeping it all straight enough to end up with a lean mean cuttin machine ;) stay tuned b/c this one is getting fit with top quality MOP, ancient bog oak, and even a saya with a push button release.
