Steve that knife is fantastic looking. Keep it easily accessible and it's good for home defense. Intruders will be mesmerized by the beauty and the knife should do the rest quite easily.
Re: Show us your new knife!
Close! That is a Kamon custom with the S-grind, the production also features that grind. The differences are the custom is forged vs. stock removal for the production. The custom has a far smoother distal taper is the main advantage. Different quality steels and hardness as well. Both cool knives though!

Re: Show us your new knife!
First post on here! Been looking for my first Japanese knife for awhile now and finally took the plunge. Kurosaki Shizuku R2 Wa-Bunka 165mm. This thing is awesome. Fit and finish are great and the pictures don't do it justice. I'm addicted now. Already looking for my next one!

Fantastic pictures and knife.pd7077 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 6:06 pm Why is it that whenever I try to trim down my collection, I end up finding a knife that I can’t say no to?!? 2020 is the year that I’m supposed to shift some funds towards other hobbies, but I couldn’t turn down this Yoshikane Tamamoku V2 Suminagashi 270 when it was offered to me. I don’t like lasers or lightweights so it was love at first sight when I saw its beefy-ass grind. Yes, I like big knives. This one is 278x56 and 347g. I still need to play around with her, but so far I’m extremely impressed. Looking at the choil, you would think that this thing would be a wedge monster, but nothing could be farther from the truth. I don’t know much about this line so any info from the old school vets here would be graciously welcome. And now time for some porn...

Told myself I was only supposed to get the exact knives I need for my kit... famous last words .
I'm trying really hard to just give this a quick test run and sell it for something else I want more but...wow, I see the appeal. It's amazing how heavy it is!

Re: Show us your new knife!
So much for my plans to trim down my collection. Another Konosuke ginsan fell into my lap...this time a 240 gyuto that should pair well with the ginsan nakiri I found last month. It’s a bit shorter at the heel than I prefer (46mm), but I’ll learn to adjust.

I had one of those years ago!!!
I miss mine .
Those were always quite a bit shorter then your standard gyuto. Interestingly enough....I found a maker awhile ago in Japan who had very very similar spec on his ginsan gyuto . But I haven't been able get around to picking up one yet.

Re: Show us your new knife!
Therein lies my problem...I’m never able to find anything whenever I’m looking, but as soon as I stop looking, knives seem to magically appear I picked up another Kono the other day, but I’ll wait to post that one until the handle is done. I think I’m gonna stop looking for knives to see what else pops up

This tiny knife just arrived: Okamitsu 55 mm White #1. I posted a light-hearted review on KKF and here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1t_dKD ... k02qxZHeC9.

Shigemitsu Ito Tamahagane 180 mm Santoku. Both the core and cladding are tamahagane. Shigemitsu Ito is a sword maker who makes his own tamahagane, I believe. The blade is pretty thin and light but feels stiff. Rustic but attractive finish, in my opinion.

How is the Konosuke Fujiyama FM (B#1) for rock chopping?pgugger wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2020 11:07 am Finally got my hands on a Konosuke Fujiyama FM (B#1) and Konosuke HD2. Both 240 mm, though the FM is a little undersized as expected. The FM has an ebony and black buffalo horn handles, while the HD2 has a laurel handle. These really do have exceptional fit and finish. Much nicer to hold than any other knives in my collection. Looking forward to trying these out!

Re: Show us your new knife!
I think it rocks pretty well, but I am probably not the best person to ask because I tend to favor other cutting styles. Very thin behind the edge and pretty high Rockwell hardness, I believe, so I would be careful rocking aggressively.pcavaliere wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2020 1:53 pm How is the Konosuke Fujiyama FM (B#1) for rock chopping?

Re: Show us your new knife!
This is actually a super cool, very unique knife. My wife is afraid to use the Shibata because she doesn't want to accidentally chip it. This is the type of knife you can really feel comfortable chopping and not be worried about the knife. I am extremely new to sharpening, (this was my second knife), but it felt easy to sharpen.
