New Handles

Post by ChefKnivesToGo »

Hi Guys,

Let me know your favorites. These are from a woodworker near Moritaka. So far they're just doing mostly ovals. I want to use them and try and get business rolling. There is a chronic shortage of handles in Japan so we need new guys to step in.

1, 2, 3 & 5 are my favorites. If I had to choose just one, it would be #1.

My favorite would be 5, but in an octagonal.

1, 2, and 5. For sure. 9 and 10 would be nice alternatives.

Were i to choose 1, it would be 5.

Joining the chorus on 5
and 2, 3,
(I'd say 7 if the main piece was lighter, like the Echizen rosewood handles, which are perfect)

5 is my favorite if I had to pick on pain of death.

I do like 4 with the rosewood ferrule, but with the same ferrule as No. 5, it would be my clear No. 1 choice. The wood is interesting enough to go with any knife, but not too idiosyncratic like 1, 3 and 10. The rose ferrule is for some like me, but not for all.

The darker handes, 6-7, need a bit more varience in shade between handle and ferrule. Both pieces so dark makes the handle seem like a one-toe wood.

3,5,6,7,9.

I'm surprised so many people put down #1 even though it has a cheap plastic ferrule and a massive step from the ferrule to the handle.

I can't quite tell from the picture, but don't they all?
