Coffee Lovers

Post by arthurfowler »

Hi all

Egolan’s Shig in BST is starting to get hijacked by coffee lovers so I thought I would start a new thread. I hope this is the right place.

I had a Nespresso for quite a few years and decided to look at a new machine. I then bought a Sage (Breville) Barista Express and loved trying different beans and playing with grind size to get a great tasting coffee. As with most rabbit holes, I fell straight down and started looking for an upgrade. I ended up with the below: -

Sorry for the photo quality!!!

Rocket R58
Eureka Atom 65
Acaia Lunar Scales

I love my new set up albeit a good grinder, fresh beans and some practice will deliver a great cup of coffee with most machines.

Let’s see those coffee set ups!!!

Brew in a behmor brazen or aeropress.

If you are happy with what you have then it’s not worth it... then again, I am guessing at one point you were happy with soft steel kitchen knives.

Do you buy beans that were roasted within the last two weeks? That is probably the biggest improvement to most people’s coffee.

OH no, yeah those blender grinders aren't great since they will leave you will super inconsistent grounds(lots of super fines and boulders) which affect how your coffee extracts(like cooking different sized carrots at the same time). It'll be a weird combo of acidic and bitter. I'd send you old hario skerton, but I just gave it away last week =/

That’s my wife’s dept., I have enough hobbies I’m throwing money at without becoming a Coffee Guru.

That’s a nice Gesture. We’re just about done building a new house. Being serious for minute, we will probably upgrade the whole coffee thing. We had a decent machine before we sold the old house but we are staying in a home we rent by the office now and keep everything at a minimum here.

At home we use a Rancillio Silvia with PID and a Rocky Grinder. It makes the best coffee I have ever tasted, consistently and with no issues in 9 years! (touch wood). Best $1200 I ever spent.

I used to use a Schaerer Super Automatic and Bunn drips in my food trailer together with a Bunn computer controlled grinder. I could program an on board chip in the hopper so that when the funnel was put into the coffee machine it would automatically program the brew head for the best coffee for that bean and grind!
