Chef Knife made for Anthony Bourdain
Chef Knife made for Anthony Bourdain
The NYT just reported that a Bob Kramer made for Bourdain (plus other effects) will be auctioned off later this year for his family and a scholarship fund.
Thought some here might be interested.

Lol, just read a news blip stating his prized chef knife is expected to go for between 4 and 6k....I am confident it will go for MUCH more.
Re: Chef Knife made for Anthony Bourdain
One thing I noted is that the story suggests he led a rather ascetic life at home, despite his means and opportunities. RIP.

You guys probably know this, but there is a full episode from one of his shows on that particular knife. I believe it is from his short-lived "artisan makers" series (or whatever it was called). It is on YouTube.

I'm not sure that they HAVE to do this. It sounds like half of the proceeds are going to his daughter and half will go to setting up a scholarship at the CIA.

That video was awesome. Anthony Bourdain was so eloquent, so respectful, and had some pretty good knife skills.

I suspect this is the same clip, starting around 9:20, but I don't know because the original also won't play for me (probably a Canada issue). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-98Cici1cVcDrewski wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 11:58 pmThanks for posting that. Re: Chef Knife made for Anthony Bourdain
As expected this auction started today and is at $20,500 including 25% auction fee. This is going a lot higher before it ends on 10/30. I hope the new owner wants it for it’s connection to the owner and creator and not as an investment. I’m sure Anthony Bourdain and Bob Kramer would love be to see it being a used and respected tool for someone.

Re: Chef Knife made for Anthony Bourdain
Oddly enough, I read a random article that suggested Bourbain didn't even use the knife. The pithy quote was that he was "waiting for food worthy of the knife." It also mentioned that he did not keep the knife Kramer made for him for the show; in fact, he went back and bought one years later after lusting for it. I believe he paid close to 20k and he called it one of the most expensive things he owned, period.
I don't believe journalism like this (or interview statements like these) as "fact," but it wasn't fake news. Probably just hyperbole and/or family recounting stories years later. Even so, I thought it provided a window into Bourdain's own complicated connect to the blade.

Right, Bourdain often used an F.Dick off set serrated knife in his cooking days. By the time he got to talking with BK he likely was not cooking much with all his travel. Still a wickedly cool knife.
