I’m just now seeing this Onion... quite a collection you have. I use to pack one around when I was kid, always had one. In my little part of the world you could take knives to school, even belt worn folders and we did. The only slip joints I have left are two Case trappers, one is my Grandpas old knife or one of his old knives and the other I bought because it reminded me of him. I’m currently unpacking into a new home, when I find them I’ll post them. Nice thread!

Thank you ol buddy. I have many more slip joints, even more then Japanese kitchen knives. Like you, as kids, we always had a slip joint of one pattern or another. I'll have to include a picture of my other trappers. Mostly, I have Case knives and GEC ( Great Eastern Cutlery). GEC are made really well but we as kids ,grew up with Case.
I’ve been looking at some GEC trappers and Barlow’s for the last hour. I found a single blade trapper I like in red jigged bone, gonna look a bit more. Good thing we do t live closer, all we’d do is burn gun powder and compare blades.

My first knife was apparently also my first Japanese knife. Go figure. I don't know anything about this other than it was given to me by my granddaughter in the 80's.

Those are the best kind and the most priceless, the ones that your Grandfather gives you.
