The First Order
I always used the same email address when I order through CKTG. Since I created an account I can see my order history going back to the beginning.
My first order was on 03/26/2010 and was a Tojiro DP 210 gyuto. The knife has since moved on, but I remember it fondly.
What/When was your first?

February 3, 2016, Three piece Tojiro DP set. Still have them but mostly use the paring knife, have others now I prefer to use over the Tojiro. This was my first foray into Japanese knives and I was so amazed that I bought a set of these the following week to send to a friend of mine.

04/02/2014 goko damascus 240 $119 - never really ended up using it much. Ended up selling it for probably a little less than i should. I got a 210 artifex soon after and worked that sucker good. The goko was a good knive bit that asymetric edge at the time i wasn't getting great retention, because the way i sharpened it i think.

Re: The First Order
First Japanese knife I bought was while overseas, and was not from Mark for that reason (!!). It was after about 2 years of research, and it was my Masamoto VG, in fall of 2011.
I believe my first order from Mark was a Tojiro garisuke and a flattening stone in spring 2012...followed a few months later by a Konosuke HD 240mm Funayuki-Gyuto with Ebony handle that I treasure more and more each day even though it sees less action than it used to.
I'll never forget that Mark tried to get me to buy a Kono stainless western from him the first time around...I still regret that I didn't take his advice and bought the masamoto instead!

Comments: I'm short, a home cook, prefer lighter, thinner blades, and own mostly Konosukes but have used over a dozen brands.

Re: The First Order
Congrats! Did you get the M390??? I am actually kinda sad I didn't even see that one pop up. Pretty unique blade, for those that remember.

Re: The First Order
I think they only have seconds available sometimes of the Ultimatum and that too of only the AEB-L version. If they had a second of the M390 I'd def get that! I'm still pretty excited about it though : )

Re: The First Order
My first Japanese knife was a Nenox 230 mm sujihiki with a snakewood handle, but this preceded CKTG by several years. I was mesmerized by Iron Chef Sakai's use of this knife. Still have it. I'm guessing ~ 20 years ago. I'm guessing some Tojiro DPs were my first purchases here at CKTG.

Re: The First Order
I found the email confirmation for my first order, a little over three years ago. May 9, 2014.
Konosuke HD2 240.
The email receipt included the comment I made when placing the order... "This will be a wonderful first knife from CKTG. Certainly not the last..."
OMG that turned out to be an understatement.
