Takamura Chromax 210mm Gyuto?
I bug my blacksmiths all the time about knives I think we can sell with different combinations of shape and steel. The Takamura Chromax in a 210mm gyuto has been high on my poke list for some time. They told me they would do them but I had to order 500. Gulp!
What do you guys think? Take one for the team and buy them? I think 500 would take me 2 years to sell and I’m very confident that these guys will do a nice job. I doubt I would get a better return on the money doing something else with it.

Re: Takamura Chromax 210mm Gyuto?
I'd be interested as I have very few semi stainless knives. What I do have is closer to D2 and that seems to be more like A2, interesting.
Damn it. I said I was never going to collect knives and used to only keep 5 around the house and now I have around a dozen...

If they're similar to the R2 version (and my understanding is the Chromax knives are in the same ballpark, just a hair thicker) at a lower price they would be awesome budget knives. The R2 is already a remarkable knife with regard to price. How similar would the Chromax guy to be to the Kanehide TK? Would these be with bolsters or without? With the Takamura name I could see a Chromax gyuto taking a lot of thunder from similar knives. I have to imagine they would sell very well.

Yeah they should compete on price with the Kanehides with higher hardness steel. It will also cannibalize the Migaki R-2 which is fine by me. I don't really care if we sell one or the other.
I think I'm going to do it. It's good to pick up nice merchandise where we will have an exclusive. Especially in the all important $100-$150 price range. That's the sweet spot for most customers that are not knife nuts.

Yes, damn it!
Mark, it would be filling the hole of a lower-priced hammered wa-gyuto, that is (semi)-stainless. It's a perfect gift option\entry way to Jknives.
500 in two years? Why not

I also think that it is easy to maintain and thus easy-to-gift, especially in this price range.ChefKnivesToGo wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2017 3:46 pm Yeah they should compete on price with the Kanehides with higher hardness steel. Yo notwithstanding, I'm pretty sure gyutos will fly off his shelves too.
Imagine those with wa, though...

I agree on both. Something in a rosewood color with a black collar would be nice too. Or even the reverse.

I find myself partial for a light-to-dark scheme in handle-to-ferrule.
The other direction just doesn't seem right to me...

I like blond horn so I like dark to light. Like ebony with a nickle sliver spacer and blond horn.

I have a feeling that will crush a whole bunch of other knives' sales. I can't help but be tempted to try as many reasonably priced knives as possible. Do the chromax's have the laser reputation of the Migaki?

Ok it's on! It could be trouble if nobody buys them.
Here is the page where it will go when we get them.

At that price, I can not see them not selling. I am sure I can convince half a dozen people that they need to upgrade from a Tojiro or Fujiwara to the Chromax. I will want one too. I like the looks and only have two semi stainless knives.ChefKnivesToGo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2017 1:31 pm Ok it's on! It could be trouble if nobody buys them.

I will be one to purchase the gyuto. I have the Santoku and love it so much.
