New Maker you may be interested in.
First look at these and they're sweet. Made in Sanjo and the blades are finished by hand with a file. If I ever wanted to counterfeit a Shig these would be the ones I would use. BTW they are not by Shigefusa. The blacksmith is a few miles away and knows them but has never worked for them. I'm stealing one. My second theft of the year.
I'm working on the section page now. I'll be done soon: https://www.chefknivestogo.com/yashha.html

Looks interesting Mark. How's the distal taper and are they stainless or iron clad?
I'm Dave. I don't take myself too seriously and you probably shouldn't either.

Iron clad? Dude, you are killing me with all of these 180s. I don't make enough money for this...ChefKnivesToGo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2017 10:29 am First look at these and they're sweet. You’ve definitely got my attention with this one. Nice profile, good height, thick spine...good thing Christmas is just around the corner!

You started it. This is what happens if you keep poking me about stuff.Kit Craft wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2017 11:45 amIron clad? Dude, you are killing me with all of these 180s. Hard to put my finger on why, but I have a hunch it's shirogami.

Yes it’s white #2.
I’ll put some more work into the pages tomorrow.

Never fails. My wife counts my blades. Counts the handles I have made and says "Are you done for now?"
I answer "Yes"
Then this happens.
Thanks Mark,

Those really caught my eye at lunch. Since you are keeping one, will you use it soon? I'm curious about the wedging vs the Yuki.

Ooh, now those are purdy. Might have to wait a while, I added one to the line up last week and hoped my wife didn't notice. She didn't until the weekend, when she said 'By the way, what is that?"
Re: New Maker you may be interested in.
Can always tell a middle-of-the-night post.
Look forward to more info. Seems like there are four makers of the Yahiko brand of knives. One for the R2, one for the Shimo, one for the Nashiji and Kurouchi and one for the Hairline.
Curious about the branding strategy. At first I thought a higher-end CKTG line to supplement a middle-tier Kohetsu line. But the R2 thows that assumption off.

Re: New Maker you may be interested in.
Yes this guy is different than the others. He's about 40 years old. New to the website. I'll make sure I have a sit down with him when I'm in Sanjo on my May trip. Until then this is all I know besides his name.
Here are the details I added to the item pages. Copy and videos are next. I'll send these to Steve for his take on them shortly.
Employees: 1
Location: Sanjo City Japan
Construction: San Mai, Hammer Forged
Cladding: Soft Iron
Finish: Hairline
Core Steel: White #2 (Shirogami #2)
HRC: 60-61
Edge Grind: Even (See Choil Shot)
The Shimo guy is working on a new line for us now.

Re: New Maker you may be interested in.
Does the shimo guy have other examples of white # 2 that we can compare too to see what the HT will be like? I have some white number # that simply won't hold an edge. (Every sakai laser I own...) and some that holds a good edge, for what it is. Masakage Yuki and shimo hold an edge well for white #2. Even the Tojiro Shiro holds a better edge than my lasers.ChefKnivesToGo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2017 10:07 am Yes this guy is different than the others. He's about 40 years old. New to the website. Point is, I hope this is treated to the higher side of that estimate.
