Show us your new knife!

Post by mauichef »

I think it's time for a new thread to allow all of us to show off our recent purchases and creations.

I will get the ball rolling with my soon to arrive Konosuke Fujiyama Honyaki W3 Fuguhiki by Kenichi Shiraki. Ebony and water buffalo handle and saya by Carter Hopkins.

Bring 'em on people!

This little bad boy also came in the mail on Wednesday. Spyderco Dragonfly 2 in ZDP-189. It's a sweet little workhorse 8-)
I was looking for something a little smaller than my Delica 4 and Native knives for more discreet pocket carry and this fits the bill perfectly. I may even remove the pocket clip to make it even slimmer.

Looking forward to seeing all of your Black Friday purchases. Which judging from the photo Mark took of his shipping room should be result in quite the deluge of posts :o

I'm carrying around the Ladybug in ZDP. It's surprising how often a 1.2 inch blade comes in handy and is really all you need for EDC tasks. Love that little knife.

I got the Damascus ( could not say no to the price ) quick strop to cleanup the edge and the Fam loves it. Glad I got 2 more to re-handle ( little do the girls know but MERRY CHRISTMAS) nice to have them try it before I put in the effort. lol

I will have to post mine when I get home on Friday ( Yea traveling sucks sometimes ) but I think Ray is going to win this thread! Very nice and kudos to Carter for the handle. I love his work.

For you guys with the Spydercos ( I have the Stretch ) did you sharpen to infinity or drop it back a few grits like I did? I went all the way but for what I use it for ( construction stuff ) I thought a lower grit edge from naturals would last even longer.

The Yahiko hairline shirogamis look absolutely incredible. I understand why not, but I sorely want to know who makes those lines. If it is a younger guy making any of them he will be someone to really watch.

My new knife should be here Friday. I'm going to put it to serious work. The next three weeks are going to be brisk, to say the least.

I sharpen my Spydercos and other pocket knives at or under 1000 grit. I often start and stop on a Cerax 320. I like the ease of restoring a coarse edge. Going further doesn't offer any benefit to cutting most packages. A sharp 320 grit edge is still sharp.

I took mine to infinity (8k shapton pro, then green-loaded leather strop). :D I use mine to open boxes, cut rope, etc, and I prefer a very polished edge. I touch it up on the strop almost every day - about 30 alternating passes. The thing is a razor.

I’ve always liked what Carter does with B&W Ebony, but that Doi has to be the best one yet!
