Daaaaang Sean! What are you gonna slay with that beast of a knife? That Fujiyama looks very wimpy next to your Ikeda. With that beast of a knife, you won’t have anymore use for that Fujiyama. I can have a new home for that Fujiyama. It won’t be too lonely here on my mag block. Congrats on your new aquisition.nakneker wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 12:29 pm This came in today. 300 Ikeda in blue. 297x55. I didn’t think I would keep this but I may be changing my mind, gonna proceed with a handle and see if like each other or not. The hamon was not expected for blue steel the other knife on the board is a Fugiyama 240.

I’m gonna be attempting my first custom handle, not on this knife but some others. Hopefully I can pick up some pointers from you Andreu!Andreu wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 9:23 pmDaaaaang Sean! Re: Show us your new knife!
I picked up a Tanaka Nashiji 210 to have a second 210 that can rock and push. My Gassan 210 is purely a chopper/pusher.
I liked the 210 so much I bought it's bigger brother. Both are great performing knives in line with Tanaka's other work, but unlike the Sekiso, these B#2 knives are stainless clad.
As you can see, I do like a bit of bling in some my knives.
The 210 and 240 are not exactly the same. The 210 is almost like two knives in one. The tip gets surprisingly thin, but the heel is quite meaty.
Though it's hard to see in the photo the 240 has a more pronounced S grind, unlike the convex grind on the Sekiso. The tip is thin and performs just as well as its smaller sibling. The Nashiji is not quite as tall or as rounded as the Sekiso and it's more geared toward pushing. Just a great knife overall.
Drawbacks? Like most Tanakas, the edges and spine are not rounded. I seldom notice, but putting it out there for the record. And it's got the usual slight blade blemishes often found on Nashijis. A feature to me, not a bug.

Re: Show us your new knife!
Wow, I love those Tanakas. I've been considering the 210 for a while. I really prefer the look of that stock handle on yours to the pictures on the listing page on CKTG. Its not quite as light as I thought, looks really nice.
Re: Show us your new knife!
The stock handle is actually darker than my photos show. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is. Very well done.
The 240 can hold its own with pretty much anything I've tried. With custom handle, it weighs about 7.5 ounces. Balance is on the pinch.
The 240 with the stock handle is, in my view, the best knife for $200 or so ($210 actually) on CKTG. I like it better than the Makotos, but it's a matter of preference. The Makotos run a bit lighter and a bit thinner.
While the Sekiso is an all-rounder that rocks well, the Nashiji is definitely best at push cutting. It can chop and rock just fine, though.

Shigehiro 270. 254x49mm, 264g. I haven’t used it yet, but it looks pretty nice. It has a generous flat spot and it’s certainly robust feeling.

Re: Show us your new knife!
I’m excited to try it out this weekend. I find the handle to be a bit skinnier than I’m used to, but there’s a remedy for that Ironically, I’m gonna try using the Hinoura first. I never got along with smaller gyutos due to their shorter height, but this one measures 185x52 so it looks promising.
