Great stuff, inzite! I've been bugging Joe to get on his books but he's been super busy. Really want something from HF.

WOWSA!!! *DROOL*pd7077 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2018 7:34 pm My second honyaki has finally found it’s way home. Technically, it’s my first, but it arrived after the second honyaki I ordered because this one was just screaming for a custom handle. Shiraki W#2 with full moon over Mt. Fuji hamon. Handle (by Matt Delosso) is Gabon ebony with mammoth tooth ferrule and musk ox spacer. I might have to just look at her for a few weeks before putting her to work.

Those look awesome... I kinda wish that I'd bought a Maboroshi before I went on knife buying hiatus, I totally dig the aesthetics.ashy2classy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 2:42 pm I'm part of the camp that really enjoys TF knives...

That Shiraki honyaki looks beautiful, so slick! It's almost too pretty to use.pd7077 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2018 7:34 pm My second honyaki has finally found it’s way home. I'm Dave. I don't take myself too seriously and you probably shouldn't either.

Re: Show us your new knife!
^^^I have to admit that it the choil shot is about as close as I've seen to the T-F I own. It is nearly identical from what I remember...nice comparison.

Re: Show us your new knife!
i think it's thinner at the edge and behind the edge than most maboroshi out of the box it's almost denka like. Denka being thinner up the blade. The Joekiyo cuts great and has wonderful fit and finish - bevel is stone ready since it was finished on stones to begin with.

Re: Show us your new knife!
Can you explain for the ignorant guy in the room what KS means and T-F? Thank you.

Re: Show us your new knife!
As above: Teruyasu-Fujiwara (not to be confused with the many other "Fujiwara"s)
KS: Masamoto KS series, usually the reference is to the 240mm length, which is actually oversized (close to 250+).
As for choil: YES! I stand corrected. I was referring to "my" T-F, which I have altered to resemble what I think a T-F should be (I have seen examples like my own that are factory-fresh, but they are much more rare than the standard rough-and-tumble, thicker, lower grinds in his lower priced lines). Notice not only the obvious similarities with above, but also the more subtle ones, such as the expansion at the mid-point and the gentle drawback higher up on the grind, almost like a dual-faced "S" grind. I raised the grind on this while also thinning it quite a bit behind the edge. I'd be scared to thin it any more, to be honest—the steel feels super thin on the board, and given how hard it is, I wouldn't want to test its limits further at this point given the natural weight and heft on the board and how much it wants to "drop" with every cut.
