Knife to cut pie
My wife baked a bunch of pies for Pi day and I chipped my petty cutting them, maybe I am being a dunce, but what do you all use to cut your pie (not pizza pie, baked pie)? I need something sharp do I don't crush crusts but usually end up needing to sharpen after since the dishes are glass.

Re: Knife to cut pie
I used to use a Henckel's filet knife to do initial cuts...thin blade with a rounded entry to the tip....worked well, then spatula to lift out the pieces.

I use a pie server with a serrated edge. You need something like a pie server to get a slice out cleanly anyway so why bruise a knife?

If God wanted me to be a vegetarian he wouldn't have made animals taste so good.

Re: Knife to cut pie
Mac Fillet Knife FK-70 << is what I use: it is thin, flexible with a round tip and works great on all kinds of pies.
Re: Knife to cut pie
I use a serrated knife, first scoring through the top at surface level and then once through the whole pie. Anything works, including a steak knife.

I'm Dave. I don't take myself too seriously and you probably shouldn't either.

How very civilized of you all. I just give my kids and I 4 spoons and tell them to have at it.
Seriously...i just use a cheapy serrated bread knife. Serrations get through thick crust easily. And since it is a cheapy I don't care if it is hitting glass or metal. My only caution would be on ceramic / enamel / non stick cookware. For that, I use a plastic lettuce knife (don't laugh - it has serrations and doesn't mar surface!).
