I agree. It's a bit like liver and onions or brussel sprouts or anchovies. - not everybody likes it so more left for me.

Here is a truly rare one - Ashidani Renge Suita. First a picture of the stone overall and then a closeup picture of one of the Kanji Characters, showing the renge pattern more closely. More formally, this should have been classified as a Marukei stone. I've used it a couple times and am hesitant to sell it.

Shiki Uchigumori from BST, originally from Watanabe. As my second JNAT, this is a great stone. Easy to use and a fantastic finisher.

I sharpened an outdoor knife on a brick, Murry Carter style, at my dad's farm once just to see if it would work. Was really surprised how sharp it got!
Don't have a picture of the brick though....

Well this thread is way beyond my meager sharpening ability and stone collection, but I got a Shapton pro 2k based on Kits glowing review!

This is my speed too. A chef friend gave me a norton combo stone for my wedding 10 yrs ago, I am determined to wear it down before I buy another stone.Bob Z wrote: ↑Tue May 08, 2018 10:50 pm Well this thread is way beyond my meager sharpening ability and stone collection, but I got a Shapton pro 2k based on Kits glowing review!

Re: Show us your newest stone!
Admittedly, I don't know anything about naturals, but after looking at the comments on the BST thread and finding the same type of stone half this size on Watanabe's site for a slightly higher price, I jumped on it. I believe this is it for me on the stone front. I have my Chosera 800, 3000 and now the Uchi. For as much as I sharpen (which isn't much), this is a set that I'm happy with. *FAMOUS LAST WORDS*Kit Craft wrote: ↑Tue May 08, 2018 10:33 pmMan, you went all out for your second stone!ashy2classy wrote: ↑Tue May 08, 2018 8:01 pm Shiki Uchigumori from BST, originally from Watanabe. Well, you seem to have a good set. No real need for more than that, imo. Hell, same with knives. But we know how that goes.ashy2classy wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 8:34 amAdmittedly, I don't know anything about naturals, but after looking at the comments on the BST thread and finding the same type of stone half this size on Watanabe's site for a slightly higher price, I jumped on it. Ben you could hurry up the process if you gave it a good flattening every day, regardless of whether it needed it or notBensbites wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 3:07 amThis is my speed too. Re: Show us your newest stone!
Ha. I only recently started freehand sharpening. Let’s see how long the stone lasts, it gets slippery when wet. It might fall and break.Radar53 wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 8:57 pmBen you could hurry up the process if you gave it a good flattening every day, regardless of whether it needed it or notBensbites wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 3:07 amThis is my speed too. Re: Show us your newest stone!
New Aono Aoto and Amakusa from Ken. That Amakusa is an interesting story, involving me shipping mine to Ken to be lacquered, and proceeding to get stolen upon delivery. No worries though, Ken took care of me.

Re: Show us your newest stone!
I forgot to post this here, lol.
I picked up an aizu a few weeks ago. After lacquer the bottom and sides, I mounted it to a solid base. The base was then lacquered and the bottom was painted with liquid tape.
The base was cut at 45 degrees off the grain so it looks like end grain all around.
