How to permanently mark spoons (metal)?
How to permanently mark spoons (metal)?
Hey guys,
Just got a bunch of new plating spoons and what not... want to mark them, so if they get jacked, I can identify them. Does some sort of crazy Sharpie exist that will work on stainless steel without washing off?
Yes - I know the best solution for this is them not to get stolen in the first place - but looking for suggestions to get them marked. Another co-worker suggested taping the ends but that doesn't seem too permanent.

If you don't mind paying shipping back and forth, I will be happy to laser engrave your initials on them for free.

Can you do wood as well? I currently have two clients who want something like this on a knife handle. Let me know if you are interested in collaboration.

What kind of laser engraver do you use for this? I’ve been toying with getting something for engraving names on knives but the ones I’ve seen are really expensive.

I just stare at the knife like it’s my preschooler misbehaving in public.
Re: How to permanently mark spoons (metal)?
Sure. I can engrave probably anything. I would need to play around with the settings to do wood, but my laser can do it. Drop me a PM and we can discuss it.

Lasers can be incredibly expensive. Mine is on the lower to mid range at around $26k. I do a fair bit of engraving for other businesses so if I can be of service to you, I'm sure we can work something out. I can engrave anything from text to photographs and custom artwork. There are much cheaper laser engravers out there that would probably serve your needs, mine is a production machine and is quite fast. Way overkill for engraving names on knives.ChefKnivesToGo wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 3:06 pmWhat kind of laser engraver do you use for this? I'd feel remiss in not suggesting a dremel. They're relatively accessible and will basically last forever. If however you've got access to free laser engraving that's going to be much better than whatever you do with a dremel.

It’s not permanent, but I’ve seen people use the asparagus rubber bands to put a rubber band indicator on their spoons. I wonder how something like nail polish would work.

Buy a dremel
It won't be as pretty but you can get initials carved in easy.
They're versatile around the house as well
20 bucks will get a decent one off Amazon

Re: How to permanently mark spoons (metal)?
You could probably etch it electrically. I'm not entirely informed on the process, but pocket knife guys use it extensively.

Metal stamps could be good. Not as clean as that laser work though.
